Protect College Sports Act [formerly “SCORE Act” thread]

What’s so funny is why the cap if nobody cares and nobody is expanding - to get their win why not just say 22 as a cap? Push back on them there lol make them take the ‘win’
Even more hilarity ensues when everyone has gone hush-hush about the fact that the original proposal had 22 as the cap; before going down to 19 then 20; and on top of that, the original proposal pooled together media rights.

This was vehemently opposed by the B1G and SEC until the NCAA caved so those two conferences didn’t have to abide by any pooling together of media rights; thereby, once again making the need for expansion paramount for the underpaid ACC GANG of 4 schools to leave.

If the ACC gang of 4 and whoever rises to the occasion on a given year in the XII and ACC could receive payouts in line with 34 of their respective peers, a supermajority of which underperform them, which theoretically could be done w/ pooled media rights akin to march madness, then schools wouldn’t need to switch conferences.

The fact that they need to switch conferences speaks to the fact the Rutgers gets an annual payout larger than the 2030 ACC exit fee.

What's stopping Miami, FSU, Clemson, and others from leaving the ACC to create a new conference?

As I was saying...

Depending on how things play out, I don't think it would be a bad counter to everything that's happening. You could go poach teams from the SEC and BIG10 and form a conference devoid of bottom feeders. You would basically have the most efficient model of any conference.

I think the SEC exit fee isn't nearly as big as the ACC and I'm not sure the BIG10 has one.

Instead of trying to fight for a seat at the table with all these old guard a-holes why not buy your own table and ***** over the others. That's the most Miami thing we could do.

The 4 schools are not trying to derail the Protect college sports act - they in fact have shown HOW it can be passed quickly. Focus on the original intent - NIL controls and transfer controls - and don’t try to legislate conference affiliation matters that involve many considerations ( medical research) outside of sports.

Ted Cruz has spoken. As have Cody Campbell's campaign contributions.

So what’s next here

The Section 205 penalties are removed or the bill dies.

The ACC schools with hopes of an SEC or B1G invite have a whole lot more pull in their own states than Texas Tech's top booster.

That's a lot of no votes in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina -- and likely Virginia, Georgia Tech and California when the ACC university presidents and their schools' richest boosters start making phone calls to their representatives in the House.

Pretty obvious by the scare tactics laden rebuttal directed at UM/UNC/Clemson/fsu that Campbell knows his plan is on the ropes
