I was waiting for the foreign athletes issue to come up. Something like 1200 foreign athletes from NCAA institutions competed in the last Olympics (both summer and winter). Kind of a weird for republicans to be arguing that football and basketball players, mostly American citizens, should be responsible for subsidizing foreign Olympic athletes training while they’re in a US college.
 
FOS: What part of the current college business model is the least sustainable?
GB: The growth of what your NIL budgets have been over a very short period of time. People criticize coaching salaries, sometimes athletic director salaries. There certainly has been growth there, but nowhere near as dramatic and as quick a growth as the NIL space. There certainly isn’t the revenues to support them in that shorter period of time frame.
At Alabama, we have purposely not reduced the investments we make in our student athletes academically, athletically, socially, nutrition, medical, etc. We feel that while we will be competitive in the NIL space, and our recruiting has shown that, we also want young people that want those other development services as well. Those are the ones who are going to be most interested in maximizing their growth here, as a person and as an athlete.

Even tho we are about to expand the playoffs and get a much larger slice of financial pie; even tho march madness alone, not even in the regular season included, d1 men’s basketball subsidizes billions in legal settlements, the ncaa as an institution and its hundreds of millions of dollars in investments, and pretty much everything in d2 and d3 despite no scholarships being available in d3.”

Did hear a rumor that the cap is being moved to 20. If so who is going to the B10 with Miami? Miami & FSU? There is a strong belief by a couple of FSU guys who have decent connections that the settlement with the ACC included an out for FSU and Clemson. Clemson to the SEC and Miami +1 to the B10 might be just down the road.

Saw Senator Moody from FL did an amendment to move from 19 to 20 but some reason Booker is blocking votes
 
These ******** don’t quit. Thankfully the players have some solid lawyers working on their behalf unbeknownst to them

Looks like these rules are goin to be brought to the forefront even without a bill. Of course, no mention of a conference expansion cap in this article.

History will be made Monday with a Senate vote on the PCSA bill. Meanwhile, college sports executives are already drumming up an alternative approach.

I have no idea what they are gearing up to operationalize the bill’s provisions means in the aggregate. I would imagine any serious new rule made by the ACC would have to be approved by X amount of members. And i highly doubt the ACC has 75% of the votes to pass it. Even with Notre Dame’s given voting power, Ross recently reported that five ACC members had issues with the legislation. That’s enough to impede any attempt; unless any of those 5 schools would agree with all the parts of the in-conference governance except the conference expansion parts. Then by leaving that out, maybe they could usher In a monetary cap.

These adults seethe with rage that certain young people they supposedly care about can make more in 4 years than they did in the last 20+.
 
Seems like transfer restrictions may be initially able to withstand challenge? TBD. No idea how this would work considering players will want to transfer from conference to conference
