Wouldn't be so sure of that. And if it doesn't pass before new congress is seated then today's price is not tomorrow's price when it comes to specific clauses in the agreement. For instance, hard to have a conference cap at 19 if one or more conferences are at 20 or more by then.
 
After some thought, I’m not so sure if the B10 and SEC didn’t green light the bill early on already knowing that it wouldn’t pass through as it was or without major modifications. Their hands won’t be dirty with this mess not passing and when congress gives up on this, NCAA will have no choice but to allow the big 2 to come up with all the new rules.
 
The B1G doesn't get a new media deal until July 2030, and it doesn't have pro rata. The SEC doesn't get a new deal until 2034, but does have pro rata available (I think).

Maybe the B1G could get FOX to make a couple adds, but who knows?

I heard a rumor that ESPN and the SEC are already talking about a new deal

Makes sense. I doubt the B1G would add anyone at full share until 2030 as it would be a slap in the face to Oregon and Washington. You guys made better money in the ACC than those 2, so you are best staying put as long as possible if your goal is the B1G.

The real problem is the cap. However, I think that’ll be solved either in the House or the courts. If not, I believe the Big10 or the SEC would eventually jettison deadweight programs like Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, etc. to make room for a marquee brand like Miami.

$150M to leave and then trying to make up +/- $65M in media rights payments.

The exit fee can be financed.

The media rights would take care of itself once you have a scheduling agreement in place with your future conference home.

You know as I think about this, while it's obvious the SEC is underpaid, and so are some in the ACC, I don't think ESPN is rolling in dollars right now. I don't think any of the media heavyweights are rolling in it right now - including FOX, CBS, etc. With this in mind, the conspiracy theorist in me is thinking this rumor is intended to instill a (false) hope. It's hard to believe that ESPN would even renegotiate favorable terms on the face of it, and then consider everyone's financial position makes it even more doubtful. FOX just recently told the NFL they aren't renegotiating.

I understand the skepticism but there’s no way the Big 10 doesn’t realize that Miami being dominant helps the entire college football world. They would be crazy to support something where UM can’t get to the Big 10. There has to be LOTS going on behind the scenes. Glad we have king Joe at the helm.

1) It's still $150M

2) If we had to be independent for 5 years, no matter what our cobbled together schedule looked like, selling a 5 year package of our games until we were able to join a conference would be at a loss to the current ACC conference money.

3) Being independent for five years would cause problems for all of the other sports

I disagree. Whatever conference we’d be joining would enter a scheduling agreement for those 5 years so our schedule wouldn’t be cobbled together in any sport. That scheduling agreement would produce highly valuable media rights that we could easily sell for as much or more than what we get from the ACC.

That was initial plan as the buy out to leave ACC dropped by half around same time also but these laws have force accelerated alot of plans so that might all be out the window and go time

ND gets $50M a yr for football + $18M from ACC for other sports.

Miami would be lucky to get $40-45M from football and all the other sports.

Big difference between Miami and Washington in attracting viewership and big game matchup programming. Plus it gets the Big into Florida for a host of reasons. They wanted to add the Southern tier before the Pacific northwest ... but the PAC 12 folding was not anticipated.
