Proposed House settlement and NIL

I will say this though, if Miami fully funds every single scholarship, that would be HUGE for baseball. Utterly HUGE. Imagine Miami being able to recruit anyone they want, without financial aid being a limiting factor. Even someone as mediocre at JD wouldn't be able to mess that up.

It's the 1st step. A long way to go, to stop this from be sued to shreds. It's a start, though.

Nothing will be upheld or finalized until athletes are deemed employees and collectively bargaining with. Everything else in between is just temporary.

Frankly, it’s shortsighted for schools/conferences/NCAA not to offer bargaining for the athletes. They hold all the cards. There is no way such a large group on such a short term period and organize into a powerful entity. They could probably get the athletes to settle on very friendly terms and hold the advantage going forward

Don’t get it twisted. This is meant to give the good ole boys control again. Best believe people who’ll approve these contracts are going to be from certain backgrounds and might have reason to find anything against us and others schools like USC or Oregon for example.

I really really really hope these coaches advise and push these kids to put this new money in trusts or account to not spend it while in college. Between this and NIL, and enough is paid for by the school. Walking away from football after 5 years with all this money is life changing

I’m no lawyer but a third party telling you that a contract you signed with another third party is denied because it’s too much money for you won’t fly.
Correct. Your value is what the parties determine it to be when negotiating the contract.

This NIL clearinghouse will have zero subpoena power to do any kind of investigation anyway. Imagine what a private company will say when some random suit asks to see their books

Just read this on CBS Sports.

Last month, people connected to NIL Go told ACC officials that more than 70% of current NIL deals with booster collectives would have been denied according to the new rules.

(There is a document) Power Four conferences are circulating that's intended to force schools to play by the rules or face serious consequences. Among other things, schools are being asked to forfeit their right to legally challenge the new enforcement entity on any and all decisions. Reportedly, schools that refuse to sign the document could face expulsion from their conferences."

Maybe.. ACC schools should sign it, violate it and let the ACC kick them out.

That same evaluation that stated 70% of Collective based NIL deals would have been denied stated that 90% of CORPORATION FUNDED NIL deals would have been approved.

I think this will be bad for Miami. What we want is a wide open market with no rules. Anytime you put a committee in charge of saying which NIL deal is OK and which isn't, it's going to favor the SEC schools who will put their own people on that committee.

And any salary cap will only be honored by Miami. Schools like Alabama will offer bags under the table and if Miami tries to do the same thing, that enforcement committee will come after us (but let Alabama slide).

We've see it before. This is no good. Miami should refuse to sign.
