Some have asked for me to find the PFF grades for our team in other games after the UVA thread so I tried to find what I could,

(also goes without saying that certainly NONE of this is my work and all credit goes to 247sports and PFF for their analysis/making it available)


I couldn't find reliable per-game metrics leading up to UNC game, I believe PFF or ("college football focus" now) teamed up with 247 sports in mid october so this seems like a relatively new thing.

anywho, here is our best 10 players according to those guys ^, heading into our UNC game

**Note: Pro Football Focus classifies the grades between 80.0 and 84.9 as "very good" and any grade above 85.0 as "elite."

Best heading into UNC game


10th - 79.8(tie). Langham

-"Up until this point, Langham has only received 106 snaps this season, but he has made the case that he should be playing more, Langham has been targeted 17 times this year and caught ten of those passes."

10th - 79.8(tie), Berrios

-"Berrios leads the hurricanes with 337 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 25 receptions. He has been targeted 43 times this year. Berrios' grade ranks him as the 78th best wr in the country"

10th - 79.8(tie), Mike Smith

-"Smith has received just 104 snaps this season, but he is making the case that he should be on the field more, he has a run defense grade of 79.6, which is the highest run defense grade of any Miami linebacker this year. His coverage grade has been solid as well at a 75.7 on the season.

10th - 79.8(tie), Trajan Bandy

-"Bandy has received just 151 snaps this season, but he has a strong 79.9 grade in coverage snaps."

9th - 79.9, Tyler Gauthier

-"Gautheir is just below the "very good" category for the PFF ratings because he is below the 80 mark, but he has done a nice job this year as the starting center. Gauthier's grade ranks him as the 37th best center in the country, and his pass blocking grade is an 80.7."

8th - 81.3, Travis Homer

-"Homer has stepped into the starting role for the Hurricanes and done a nice job, he currently ranks as the 32nd best running back in the country according to PFF. Homer has rushed for 472 yards with 5 touchdowns, averaging 7.3 yards per carry."

7th - 82.3, Jaquan Johnson

-"Johnson's 82.3 grade ranks him as the 47th best safety in the country. His run defense grade is a 74.8 while his coverage grade is an 85.2, which is an elite grade. Johnson's coverage grade ranks him as the 17th best safety in the country in coverage

6th - 82.7, Chad Thomas

-"Thomas has been effective against the run and with rushing the passer. His overall grade ranks him as the 34th best defensive end in the country. He has earned a run defense grade of 76.9, while pass rushing grade is an 81.2, which ranks 27th in the country. According to PFF, thomas has been miami's best pass rusher this season."

5th - 82.8, RJ McIntosh

-"McIntosh has been impactful as a run defender and pass defender this season. McIntosh has an 80.5 run defense grade, and an 80.3 pass rushing grade. He ranks as the 34th best DT in the country."

4th - 83.2, Michael Jackson

-"Jackson has earned a coverage grade of 83.5, which ranks 53rd in the country, Jackson has 3 interceptions to this point on the season."

3rd - 84.9, Tyree St Louis

-"St Louis has been elite this year, grading in at 90.9 in pass blocking, which ranks 3rd. His run blacking rates in at 53.2, which is 200th in the country."

2nd - 85.1, Malek Young

-"Malek Young has been elite this year and he is rated the 40th best corner in the country. His pass coverage ranks in 37th in the country at a rating of 85, and his run defense is 51.6, good for 307th in the country."

1st - 86.6, KC Mcdermott

-"Mcdermott ranks as the 16th best tackle in the country this season, his pass blocking grade is 87.8 and his run blocking grade is 80.6."

UNC GAME


10th WR Jeff Thomas - 75.4: Thomas earned a 75.0 receiver grade and a 61.7 run block grade. He was targeted five times during the game. Thomas finished the game with three receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown. His 78-yard touchdown reception was a key play in the game.


9th LB Charles Perry - 77.2
: Perry played 48 snaps against North Carolina. His run defense grade was a 69.6 and his coverage grade was an 81.0. Perry was credited with one tackle and one interception against North Carolina.


8th LB Darrion Owens - 77.8: Owens played 31 snaps and PFF liked what they saw from him against the run and in coverage. Owens earned a 76.7 run defense grade and a 73.4 coverage grade. He finished the game with four tackles and one tackle for loss.


7th OL Kc McDermott - 78.2: McDermott earned a 79.4 pass blocking grade and a 74.5 run blocking grade. He allowed one pressure on the quarterback during the game, according to PFF.


6th DE Demetrius Jackson - 80.0: Jackson continues to impress as he comes off the bench. Jackson earned 41 snaps against North Carolina and he earned a 79.1 run defense grade and a 76.1 pass rushing grade. Jackson was credited with two quarterback pressures by PFF.


5th DE Joe Jackson - 80.3: Jackson had a strong day against the run, according to PFF, as he earned a 87.9 run defense grade. His pass rushing grade was a 70.5. On the day, Jackson totaled five quarterback pressures and one sack.


4th DB Jaquan Johnson - 81.2: Johnson impressed PFF with his run defense, where he earned a 83.3 grade. His coverage grade was a solid 78.3. Johnson finished the game with 11 tackles. Ten of his tackles were of the solo variety. He also recovered a key fumble in the fourth quarter.


3rd CB Michael Jackson - 81.2: Jackson earned a high grade because of his strong coverage. Jackson was targeted eight times. He came down with an interception while also breaking up a pass and forcing an incompletion with his coverage on another target. He finished the game with six tackles.


2nd WR Braxton Berrios - 82.7: Berrios finished the game with 78 yards and one touchdown on seven receptions and he made some tough catches. Berrios was targeted nine times and forced two missed tackles on the day. He was the only offensive player that earned a grade above 80 on the day.


1st DT RJ McIntosh - 87.1: McIntosh’s performance graded out as elite according to Pro Football Focus because his grade was above the 85.0 mark. McIntosh played 72 snaps and earned a 84.8 run defense grade and an 83.8 pass rush grade. He was credited with one pressure. McIntosh was credited with 11 tackles in the game.

VT Game


10th DT Kendrick Norton - Grade: 79.7

Norton earned an 84.6 pass rushing grade for his ability to push the pocket from the interior. He finished the game with four quarterback pressures.

9th DB Amari Carter - Grade: 79.9

Carter played very well as a reserve safety, earning a coverage grade of 80.1 against Virginia Tech. Carter finished the game with one tackle and one sack. He played 24 snaps and he has appeared to have supplanted Robert Knowles as the top back-up at safety.


8th WR Braxton Berrios - Grade: 81.1

Berrios was his typical, dependable self. According to Pro Football Focus, he was targeted five times and he finished the game with three receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. Berrios was on the field for 50 of the 61 offensive snaps.


7th CB Michael Jackson - Grade: 81.2

Jackson continues to play at a high level this season. He earned a coverage grade of 81.3 against Virginia Tech. Jackson finished the game with six tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass break-up.


6th DE Trent Harris - Grade: 82.3


Harris was solid against the run and pass, earning a 78.5 run defense grade and a 79.9 pass rush grade. Harris finished the game with two tackles.


5th DE Jonathan Garvin - Grade: 82.5

Garvin played 19 snaps in a reserve role and made his presence felt as a pass rusher, earning a 83.0 pass rush grade. On 13 pass rushing snaps, Garvin was credited with three total quarterback pressures. He forced a key turnover with a strip, sack, fumble recovery.


4th TE Chris Herndon - Grade: 84.2


Herndon’s 43 yard touchdown catch and run was a huge point in the game. Herndon finished the game with two receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown. He was targeted four times in the game.


3rd DB Sheldrick Redwine - Grade: 86.3

Redwine earned an elite overall grade from Pro Football Focus with a super elite coverage grade of 91.2 for his efforts. Redwine was credited with six tackles and one interception. He did not miss a tackle during the game.


2nd DB Jaquan Johnson - Grade: 86.8

Johnson earned an elite grade as he made plays against the pass and while supporting the run. He finished the game with seven tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. Johnson earned a coverage grade of 86.3, which qualifies as an “elite” grade.


1st DE Joe Jackson - Grade: 88.9


Jackson went up against Virginia Tech’s back-up left tackle and he had a dominant performance. He was credited with seven tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss on the day. Jackson’s overall grade was the top grade given to any defensive end in the country for week ten. Pro Football Focus credited Jackson with five quarterback pressures on the day.


More Notes
• DE Chad Thomas had a run defense grade of 82.3. His overall grade was 78.8.

• DT RJ McIntosh had a pass rush grade of 84.1. His overall grade was 73.5 because PFF felt like McIntosh played poorly against the run.

• Linebacker Zach McCloud was credited with just 12 snaps.

• Freshman ATH DeeJay Dallas played 22 snaps and earned an overall grade of 71.7.

ND Game


10th OL Tyree St. Louis - Grade: 78.4

St. Louis continues to be a very reliable right tackle for the UM offensive line. He particularly impressed PFF with his run blocking, earning an 81.3 run blocking grade on the day. He allowed just one quarterback pressure against Notre Dame.


9th TE Chris Herndon - Grade: 78.5

Herndon made an impact in the passing game and run game. He caught all four of his passes for 30 yards and he earned a run blocking grade of 74.5 from PFF.


8th DT RJ McIntosh - Grade: 79.1


McIntosh played 48 snaps at defensive tackle and was solid as a run defender and pass rusher. Pro Football Focus gave him a 79.3 run defense grade and a 72.9 pass rushing grade. PFF credited McIntosh with two quarterback pressures.


7th WR Lawrence Cager - Grade: 79.2

Cager impressed PFF in his limited action. Cager played 26 snaps and was asked to run block on 17 of those snaps. He caught both of his targets for 45 yards, including an impressive 28-yard fade pass in which he used his size to his advantage.


6th QB Malik Rosier - Grade: 79.7

Rosier impressed Pro Football Focus as a thrower and a runner against Notre Dame. Rosier finished the game going 15-of-24 for 137 yards with one touchdown. He also rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. PFF gave Rosier a 77.5 passer grade and a 78.2 run grade. He forced three missed tackles on the day.


5th RB Travis Homer - Grade: 80.0

Homer carried the load for the offense, rushing for 146 yards on 18 carries. Homer earned the highest grade for any player on the Miami offense from Pro Football Focus.


4th DE Trent Harris - Grade: 80.0

Harris continues to play at a very high level for a back-up defensive end. Harris played 23 snaps and earned a run defense grade of 82.2. Harris finished the game with one quarterback pressure.


3rd LB Michael Pinckney - Grade: 80.7

Pinckney played 41 snaps. Pinckney impressed Pro Football Focus with his run defense and his coverage. Pinckney earned an 80.7 run defense grade and a 76.2 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus. Pinckney finished the game with three tackles and didn’t miss a tackle in the game.


2nd DB Sheldrick Redwine - Grade: 81.6

Redwine has played at a very high level over the last few weeks and Notre Dame was another game in which he performed well. Redwine earned a 75.1 run defense grade. He also was credited with two quarterback pressures when he was blitzed. Redwine finished the game with two tackles and one pass break-up.


1st CB Trajan Bandy - Grade: 87.5

Bandy made a big impact in a small amount of snaps. Bandy played just 13 snaps, but he was able to come up with an interception that he returned for a touchdown. His coverage grade of 87.2 is an elite grade.


More Notes

• DB Jaquan Johnson earned a 80.0 run defense grade for his efforts against Notre Dame. Johnson led the team with eight tackles and according to Pro Football Focus, he did not miss one tackle during the game.

• In 23 snaps, freshman Jonathan Garvin earned the highest pass rushing grade for the Hurricanes against Notre Dame at a 77.6 pass rush grade. Garvin had an impressive strip, sack, fumble recovery in which he beat a future first round NFL Draft pick in Mike McGlinchey.

• LB Shaquille Quarterman earned a 86.3 pass coverage grade. Quarterman played 22 snaps in coverage against the Irish.

• DE Chad Thomas earned a 82.3 run defense grade. He was also credited with three quarterback pressures.

• Freshman Navaughn Donaldson impressed with his pass blocking as he graded out at a 79.2 as a pass blocker.

• Pro Football Focus was not impressed by Tyler Gauthier’s pass blocking against Notre Dame as they gave him a 38.7 pass blocking grade. Gauther allowed two quarterback pressures, according to PFF.

• Freshman running back DeeJay Dallas forced three missed tackles, which was the most of any Hurricane against Notre Dame.

Virginia Game


10th DE Joe Jackson - Grade: 79.6

Joe Jackson impressed with a 82.6 pass rush grade, but PFF felt like he could have performed better against the run as he earned a 44.9 run defense grade. Jackson led the team with five quarterback pressures, according to PFF.


9th DE Trent Harris - Grade: 80.8

Harris finished the game with a 78.6 run defense grade and a 77.7 pass rush grade. Harris finished the game with three tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.


8th OL Tyler Gauthier - Grade: 81.1

Gauthier finished with an 86.1 pass blocking grade and a 74.5 run blocking grade.


7th OL Kc McDermott - Grade: 81.2

McDermott graded out with an 83.1 pass blocking grade and a 75.5 run blocking grade.


6th OL Navaughn Donaldson - Grade: 81.3

Donaldson graded out with an elite pass blocking grade of 85.2, according to Pro Football Focus. His run blocking grade was a 76.8 for the day.


5th DE Chad Thomas - Grade: 82.5

Thomas was impressive all around as he finished with a 81.9 run defense grade and an 80.6 pass rush grade while playing 41 snaps. Thomas finished the game with four tackles and half a sack.


4th LB Michael Pinckney - Grade: 82.7

Pinckney was solid across the board according to PFF as he finished wit ha 79.5 run defense grade and an impressive 83.4 coverage grade. Pinckney played 45 snaps in the game. Pinckney finished the game with six tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass break-up.


3rd OL Tyree St. Louis - Grade: 83.6

St. Louis impressed PFF with an elite pass blocking grade of 88.6 against Virginia. His run blocking grade was just a 58.6, however.


2nd DT RJ McIntosh - Grade: 84.9

McIntosh impressed with his run defense as he earned a 86.4 run defense grade while playing an impressive 52 snaps. McIntosh finished the game with four tackles and three tackles for loss. According to PFF, McIntosh also finished with an impressive four quarterback pressures.


1st DB Jaquan Johnson - Grade: 86.6

For the past month, there hasn’t been a safety in the country playing at a higher level than Johnson. For his efforts against Virginia, Johnson earned the sixth best safety grade in the country. Johnson earned a coverage grade of 82.7 and a run defense grade of 82.1 while leading Miami with nine tackles and one interception that was returned for a touchdown. Johnson played 66 snaps against UVA.

Other Notes

• Quarterback Malik Rosier graded out with a respectable 78.7 grade. PFF gave him a 77.3 passing grade and a 74.7 rushing grade.

• One of the most impressive stats by any player on defense: the fact that RJ McIntosh played 52 snaps. Only Jaquan Johnson, Shaquille Quarterman, Michael Jackson, and Sheldrick Redwine played more. Defensive tackles aren’t supposed to have that type of stamina.

• While he still isn’t 100 percent healthy, receiver Ahmmon Richards looks like he is on his way back from his hamstring injury. Richards was targeted four times and caught all four of those passes.

• RB Travis Homer did not impress PFF with his performance as he graded out at a 41.8 for his efforts.

• DB Amari Carter continues to grade out well. He played 22 snaps on defense and earned a 77.6 grade for his efforts.

• CB Malek Young graded out poorly, according to PFF, as he earned a 32.5 overall grade and a 31.6 coverage grade.

• CB Dee Delaney played 18 snaps and earned a grade of 37.8. He did earn a 83.2 run defense grade.

• LB De’Andre Wilder played 12 snaps on defense as he replaced Charles Perry in the playing rotation and earned a grade of 76.2.

• Scott Patchan played three snaps at defensive end at the end of the game.
