Preview: Geo's #SWAG16 commit rankings

I like McCloud over Quarterman
I like Shaq over Zach for other than the obvious reason... True inside guys are more rare.. Zach is my favorite recruit beside Shaq and he is a must have... I like his family his disposition total package.. Shaq could play outside but not as good as Zach... Zach could play inside but not as good as Shaq...They are a perfect complement to each other and can't wait to see them play together

This is 100% how i see it, Zach is a true OLB and Shaq is a true MLB , Pickney can play both but i think he is better suited OLB. Zach is still raw but has bundles of talent. Shaq has IT. 5 star in my eyes and not because he is just a CANE. He always destroying ppl, hustling, he seems he loves 1 on 1 with RB's and i know he is improving on his agility and coverage skills.

the studs of the class are Jackson, Bruce, Uche, Allison, Quarterman, McCloud, Richards, Homer

the guys that shouldn't be commits or should be dropped are Moss, Rasul, Pulley, Deion, and Nelson

U are literally insane if u think we should drop rasul and d Jackson. Like u lost ur mind

Same.

I would never drop Rasul or Deion. Both are Miami caliber.

Nelson, I like tools he has but he's very raw.

Oakleaf just finished up a contact camp here in Jax...one of the coaches from another team told me... Its not when Shaq was making the tackle he was doing the most damage... It was when he plugs the hole fighting off a double team ... that disrupted our game plan ...... and he did it quite a bit this session forcing us.. to play short past game... made me feel good..

Agreed.

I wanted to mention this as well. Although I have Mike Pinckney at #11 . Pinckney as a player would be in my top 10. I don't think his ceiling is as high as Shaq or McCloud but that trio can be special together. Pinckney reminds me of throwback canes linebackers, great pop and explosion into the ball carrier. Solid tackler. Can cover too. Pinckney fits in at WLB or MLB, I think best fit would be WLB since we have Shaq at MLB.

FOC agreed on your comments on Shaq, Zach and Mike. Great group of linebackers. Love the 2017 group as well in Dunning, Rico and Steed. Want the hybrid in DeAndre Wilder added to that group in 2017 as well.

Some of the linebackers who are currently sitting on the depth chart on the team right now need to watch out. Cause I honestly think every single LB we have committed can come in and challenge for playing time.

I would never drop Rasul or Deion. Both are Miami caliber.

Nelson, I like tools he has but he's very raw.

Deion won't even play for Hallandale he is about to transfer and has yet to play a varsity down in a game that counts, funny how he doesn't have many big school offers they must know something too and Rasul has very poor vision he is a straight line speed kid with little wiggle or cutting ability he is using Miami as a placeholder think Kermit from a few years ago same scenario.

Looking ahead though.

Uche could play OLB in a 4-3 but I think he best fits DE there and could pass rush from OLB position in a 3-4.

I see Shaq and Dunning being MLB's. Both natural MLB's.

Pinckney and Steed as WLBs who can play inside in a 3-4 set.

McCloud a SLB and could be used as a hybrid OLB pass rusher in a 3-4 set as well. Great versatility.

Rico hard to project cause he comes off the most versatile to me, could play both SLB & WLB and has ability to play MLB too. I think his best fit would be at either OLB position and can play inside in a 3-4 set.

Assuming Wilder comes. Which we have a great shot at and we lead. Wilder would play SLB in 4-3 and would pass rush from OLB in a 3-4 set. One issue. He would have to gain more muscle to be able to play more minutes as a 3-4 pass rusher at OLB to take on and shed blocks. Similar prospect to McCloud. Wilder is faster obviously(running a 4.5 and 10.7 100 meter) but McCloud has a good 30 pounds and more strength on him at 220.

For as much as people hate the defense we run. We are getting the right athletes/linebackers to fill and play those positions to the tee. Having guys like AQM and McCord playing in space and covering is not ideal, both should be with hand in the ground. Guys like McCloud and Wilder have the ability to play in space, cover, blitz and play the run as 3-4 OLBs.

Every team in the country would take Rasul in a heartbeat, but we should drop him? Deion Jackson probably has the most potential of any DB recruit we have in this class. Will he live up to it? Maybe. Under this staff I want to say no but with the possibility of a new staff I think he could be a big time NFL prospect after 4 years at Miami.

Quit paying attention to star ratings when it comes to guys like Nelson. He is going to develop into a solid player here. With the type of attrition we've had, you can't afford to just drop anyone. We will be lucky if we actually sign a full class and don't have to add guys post signing day just to fill the roster.

The good? That's a really impressive list of early verbal commits with a mix of...

- High upside athletes (Jackson, Uche, Henderson, and Hinson)
- Some desperately needed Miami speed (Homer, Bruce, and Rasul until he bolts), though we need much more in this class.
- Much-needed help in the front seven (Jackson, Quarterman, McCloud, and Pinckney).
- Talented pro-style QB (Allison)
- Two corners with great physical tools (Byrd and Jackson) who would need to contribute early because of our paper thin secondary.

The bad doesn't need to be stated, though. The premier talent will not stick with another awful season, which is what will likely happen with Golden at the helm. And the amount of decommitments this class has already had is laughable.

Can you please tell me Deion's resume kid has struggled to stay at Hallandale High may not even be on the team this coming season

I'd started to become a bit disenchanted with this '16 class because of the wealth of de-commitments and because it's been tough to watch us slowly fade from the Top 5.

That said, this is an impressive haul so far, and the top ~13 players are truly top tier talents. The rest, save a couple, are quality takes, too. Very pleased. Really excited about this class (if it doesn't fall apart and we can snag a couple more "elite" talents).

Thanks for the breakdown, Geo.

only reason we are slipping is because we have 0 "5 Stars" but we know Shaq, Bruce, and you can argue Alison, Richards are "5 Stars" but they wont give it to us. only decommit that hurt for me was Mcauthar Burnett. i really wanted him apart of this class.

I'd probably switch Allison with McCloud. Bump Deion Jackson up to top 10. Maybe drop Henderson a little bit.

Drop Zach Moss and Amir Rasul to future decommits. Rasul because it seems to be a matter of when, and not if. Moss because I just don't think he's a take over Homer, Bentavious Thompson, or Fils-Aime.
For Rb's we are getting into the same situation as last year, and moss is Cronkrite, not quite as good as the other 3 to 4 that we could potentially get, so he will basically be dropped.

Deion is just a top athlete. He has a lot of potential. And since you want us to provide his resume, why don't you prove he's struggling to stay at Hallandale?

I think you might be saying You'd drop Rasul to focus on someone else because he's been close to decommitting for a while now. but it doesn't work like that. We absolutely NEED 2 Rbs in this class. And yes Rasul is probably not going to stick, but we need to try to keep him as best we can. Ideally, IMO, on signing day we'd walk away with Homer and Fils-Aime.

But if you don't think Deion and Rasul are a take at this point I can only imagine what you think about everyone outside Geos top 10.

The thing that really helps the 2016 class is the early commit of Jack Allison.
