Not that it’s ever not, but Mario has to face facts. This isn’t a normal first season. There is a generational shift happening in college athletics right now, and it happening far more rapidly than pretty much anyone thought.
At the speed the two super conferences are taking shape, and the NCAA is becoming completely irrelevant, it seems like Mario has one year max to show on the field that Miami is a major player again. Not to mention literally one year to win the Coastal before it no longer exists.
We do that, and we solidify the momentum we have which translates to greater leverage for the program to negotiate the best new conference positioning possible. There would be no doubt whatsoever, between brand history, trajectory, and metro area, that we are a diamond for Big10 and SEC to jockey over.
This opportunity will not present itself again.
