Present Day CFB Recruting and How Butch Would Dominat

Yea Butch is too dumb to ask a recruit to follow Ed Reed's twitter page. And Ed Reed would never hit up a recruit that re-tweeted one of his Interception highlights. In this day and age it will be so easy for bunch army of Pro Bowl players to recruit for us on social media. The alumni was silent for Golden But Davis is gonna get the community to recruit on the ground and his former players to recruit on social media.

We will be okay.

And I am a Chip Kelly, Herman guy but Butch is a good hire even if he isn't the best hire.

.

Chip is staying in the NFL. Herman has an untenable buyout.

Use logic first. Then decide.

Butch is the best business decision by far....period.

And while I know the noise has said that the decision is entirely in the hands of the AD, he's a hired hand.

We've all heard that some money guys are going to pony up some cash - and it has been reported to be $4M to $6. And good money for the coaching staff.

What is ignored is the guys writing the checks to enable all this. They want a wise decision, with as little risk as possible - given the past three hires.

You can buy a new Ferrari 458. You can get almost identical performance from a new Corvette Z06 - which gives you much more bang for the buck. From a pure cost/benefit analysis, the Corvette is THE way to go.

Let's see who's hired. My guess is that the check writers have the ability to limit the choices directly - or financially.

But can he dominate???

Butch is about controlling the LOS. That's Butch ball. Dominate the trenches, dominate college football. Under Butch the two shall meet, the question is how long will it take?

Great question. He's been out of football for 5 years. Can he piece together a first rate staff? He did that at Miami not so much at North Carolina. The expectations are ridiculous. My opinion is he'll need a full 3 years to get the type of kids he'll need in the trenches. Last time around he played a lot of young pups in 1997 and 1998 and the defense didn't really turn the corner until 1999.

He had some pretty good coaches... Chuck Pagano and Everett Withers. Then there was Shoop who is AWFUL.

I think we can do better and Butch is the floor.

It's come up that maybe college football and recruiting, especially with the services would somehow negate or minimize the previous advantages Butch Davis seem to enjoy - literally picking nuggets out of nowhere. The basic assumption is, with today's modern computerized ratings, media savvy high school coaches, and mass media, no really good player is overlooked.

It would take a very simple-minded individual to make such an assumption, as we see a number of four and five stars tank - especially by the time they get to the NFL. The player ratings are fairly good indicators to be sure, but nothing is infallible.

Clappy was able to pull in lots of top rated recruits, but they didn't really meet their potential, they didn't raise to even higher levels of performance, and our win/loss record reflected that fact.

Every head coach wants top players, but not every coach goes through a tedious drill while evaluating to ensure that this five star will actually put in the work and fit into the program he's trying to build.

No one, and I mean no one, evaluated talent better than Butch Davis. He had to. He was only able to hand out maybe ten or twelve scholarships, so he had to put in the work on the front end to ensure the few he selected, would excel.

That's where Butch is different. Evaluation. Winning programs get the attention of top recruits, naturally, but top programs may not always get the very best players. Like the adage, "it's not the size of the dog in a fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."

When Butch actually recruits, he's got some keys. These keys are go/no-go. Certain questions are asked by a recruit, they pack it in and leave as Butch isn't interested. Most coaches want the most four and five stars, and pursue recruits from that angle - often enough not probing the prospect like Butch does.

His system works. He stacked UM three deep in top players. Butch Davis is a better talent evaluator and recruiter than any other college coach alive. The numbers prove it.

So if you want to build a team, from the inside out, ground up, just as Saban says, recruiting is where you win most of your games.

And to suggest somehow Butch forgot the tricks of the trade, it would require one to be one slow-minded individual who has another agenda.

If he can do all this with a lack of scholarships, with 3 stars, picking nuggets out of nowhere and its without a doubt going to happen again (if he gets hired) why didnt this top notch ability thats unmatched by no one pan out at UNC?

I mean if he can build championship teams out of 3 stars and he can develop players like no one else shouldn't he have built at least the second best team in college football history.

I warn you now... hearing you squirm out of direct answer is going to be embarrassing to you and everyone you know.

At some point your going to have to come to grips with your brain as to why he is playing you like this... I mean failing to decipher basic logic. Thats supposed to be his job.

Cig, let me get this out of the way first. You can't make me squirm. You don't have that ability. You rate your capabilities far beyond what they are.

Why did it not happen at UNC? It WAS happening at UNC, but there was a little incident his last year that really crapped things up. I know you're unaware of what was going on at UNC, but I do know folks who were at UNC, and most informed people who actually get off their asses and find out can realize Butch Davis at UNC was breaking out of becoming a true basketball school.

I don't give a tinker's **** what your opinion is, because you've shown yourself uninformed and obtuse so many times before. Had Butch Davis been at UNC a couple more years - well - it's not my opinion - but they would have been a football power.

Didn't work out. The project was terminated just as all fixed costs were paid.

At this point, I don't much give a siht what you think. Because you don't know siht. You look at a few numbers and come to a conclusion. Not realizing how the numbers were derived, nor where they came from.

I used to do work where decisions were made on "confirmed" numbers. I had certain "confirmed" numbers, but my confirmed were only a fourth of the actual numbers - a premature outlook. So they made decisions. Bad decisions, it turned out. Because the numbers did not reflect what was really going on.

You stick your numbers up your a$$. You nitpick using the numbers.

Doesn't bother me, because I know where your mistakes in judgement lie.

OK your absolutely right... I don't have the ability to make an irrational people see how logic proves them wrong. You did get me there.

Also it was happening... WTF... how was it happening? He never had one winning conference record. Not one single time. He was there for 4 years and never once had a winning record. Here is where its just letting you down. It was not happening but your convinced it was.

They sucked even worse the next year.

You guys want to give Butch the credit for the 2001 Miami team saying it was his team. Well by that logic the 2011 UNC team was also Butch's team and they sucked even worse. In fact it wasn't until all of Butch's players were off of the team did they win more than 8 games.

That's right no butch player ever recruited at UNC won more than 8 games and your telling me its becoming a football power under Butch.

All these nuggets that this god like talent (butch) picked up... that no one else could see what he could ... Never did jack. Still haven't.

You see this great big hunch you have that's not backed up by any facts or any statistics is called fantasy. Its your mind making you see things that simply are not there rather than admit defeat. You know this is hitting home because there is no way that this is not a problem with you in other aspects of your life. To sit here and be disillusioned to the point where you think what you see is a fact when its clearly an unfounded opinion is proof that there some serious delusion behind your view point.

If Butch is who you say he is then there is some real evidence of that and there is none.

But can he dominate???

I may be missing something but has Butch Davis lived in a cave the last five years? The only issue I can see with assembling a top staff is paying for one. I read the program is willing to pay, so I guess we'll find out.

Oh, rebuilding the OL and DLs is going to be an issue no matter who gets the HC job. Whomever it is will hopefully hire a top OL and DL coaches.

And a revamped S&C program.

I would bet most on here have no clue how recruiting starts from the ground up.

I'm not going to explain it, but we're at a big-time competitive disadvantage in this department when you compare us to the other elite programs and their manpower. The odds of us overlooking someone is far greater than those other schools based on that alone.

Without the suspensions, Butch would've gone undefeated and unscored upon at UNC. This is fact.

In reality he probably would've gone 9-3.

Someone would have scored in garbage time.

There's gonna be some serious load swallowing going on once Butch is hired.

I relish the thought. It's gonna be like that time I spent the night in a hotel room with Charlie Sheen.
