Old school Big 12 would have 7 ranked teams. Honestly not sure why that conference unraveled given how many strong programs it had.

They've been a top program at developing talent for a while now. I don't think that stops or slows down with some of the staff changes. Their OL will still be very good. They bring back Donovan Edwards. Sophomore WR Tyler Morris will take a step this year being the main guy with Roman Wilson leaving. Their defense is still going to be elite. Wink is bringing over pretty much the same system. Will Johnson, Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant are already star players.

Penn St has a mediocre QB and no true WRs that scare defenses. They have new coordinators on both sides of the ball.

Mizzou is good but I don't think right now I can say they're definitely better than Michigan.

Tenn has a high ceiling with Nico and Pearce but that's it right now. Potential to have a high ceiling.

I agree that we haven't earned a ranking, but neither has any other team until games are played. Should FSU be ranked 13th? They did go 13-1 last year. My answer is **** NO!!!! The irony is that Miami is ranked the way pre-season rankings should be based on. It should be based on roster evaluations. The evaluation should be based on the current roster, not what some team did last year,unless those players are still on the roster.

80% of FSU's 2023 offensive production is gone. They got a bunch of transfers will little to no college experience. Guys like Earl Little, Jalen Brown, Marvin Jones and others have little to no college experience. Their 2024 WR room had a combined total of 57 catches including all the production from their transfer WRs at their previous schools. That entire WR room had the same production as Jacolby George. All that unproven talent, yet FSU is ranked 13th. That's a lot of projecting based on what? High school? The media gives a lot teams achievement awards from the previous seasons, which have little to do with the upcoming season unless those players from previous years are still on the roster. Preseason ranking should be based on roster evaluations, not previous season win totals.

On the flip side, Miami has proven talent 2-deep at nearly every position. Any evaluator can look at game film on just about every 2-deep player and measure their production against the field.

Lastly, all Miami fans should want us ranked. If we we're unranked, then it's a tough climb into the top 10. The rankings are all subjective, even with the CFP committee. Like it or not (I don't), preseason rankings play a significant role in the outcome of the regular season rankings. Unranked and lose. You'll have a tough time sniffing the top 25. Ranked anywhere in the top 15 and you can lose a game and still wind up in the top 10.

With Miami's schedule, we could wind up in the top 5 by the end of the season. We all know these rankings work. Keep winning and the teams ahead of you that lose fall behind you. If the major polls have us 12th and we curb stomp the Gators, Miami will jump into the top 10. As long as we keep winning, we'll move up. We'll have national eyes on our games, which is what we need for recruiting top prospects and to elevate or tv viewership numbers heading into the next conference realignment.

Also, teams that have ridiculous luck in turnover differential tend to fall off significantly the following season. See: Miami 2018. Even if Michigan’s defense manages to stay elite, their offense, which wasn’t very good last year, is replacing their first round quarterback. They were able to turn a lot of turnovers into short fields last year. It’s going to be next to impossible to finish +19 in turnover margin again this year.
 
The “I don’t want to be ranked until we can prove it” idea is ******* retarded. It’s much easier to climb the polls when you get a free head start in preseason rankings than if you start unranked. Unranked teams often have to “prove it” with a bunch of big wins just to break into the rankings (unless you’re Colorado). Meanwhile teams rarely drop in the rankings unless they lose.

My opinion, ACCCG loser with 2 or 3 losses will trump an non SECCG #5 team.

Pollsters see losses no matter how tough the schedule is.
I count 90-95+/- wins for the 10 SEC teams listed. Assuming 30-35 are non conference, that's 55-60 wins in conference.
There are 6 teams left with 8 conference games.

The one positive about polls that put us in the Top 20 right now is they help vault the winner of Miami/Florida into the national discussion. That way we won't be handicapped as much if/when we beat ACC teams that some might consider less challenging than SEC or BiG teams.

I agree it easier it seems if you are already there pre season. But I really don’t like pre season polls. I’ve thought for years they should rank teams week 4 or something.
