Preseason Is Over, Time to Get Real

Yes, we made (and inexplicably lost) the National Title game last year, but we've still never won the ACC and we're not an established power house (although I think Cristobal has us on our way).

The ACC is wrongly looked down upon - there are a lot of good teams in the conference that, if they catch you on an off day, can absolutely turn you over. Not many teams will go to Wake Forest and win this season.

In no way am I looking down on Wake, but Wake and the rest of the games to open the season were all games that Miami should have and did win by double digits. In my opinion, those four games also represented opportunities for this staff to work through some of the concerns coming out of the preseason, develop the younger guys, and build quality depth.
 
i have loved this schedule from day one and especially when we got put on thursdays and fridays.

first, four relatively easy games in order to work out the kinks.

second, then away games at irregular times to get the team battle tested and out of their comfort level. if you cant beat Cal on a Friday and can't demolish FAMU at home on a thursday, then you aren't ready. ****, i wish we would have had more irregularity and problems and I'm sure Mario too.

Exactly...I would bet there isn't another team in the whole country that plays three road conference games to open league play....

The offensive line is developing. I know everybody has been down on the OL, but I'm seeing some progress. And I'm going to say it now, McCoy and Samson have shown flashes that could make them one of the best tackle duos in the country by the end of the year. I wouldn't be surprised to hear both names called in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Through four games, the numbers are ridiculous: (yeah I know who Miami has played and to be honest that really doesn’t matter to me)

#1 Total Offense — 588.8 YPG
#4 Passing — 361.3 YPG
#20 Rushing — 227.5 YPG
#3 Scoring — 51.8 PPG

#2 Total Defense — 224.5 YPG allowed
#1 Rushing Defense — 39.5 YPG allowed
9.0 PPG allowed

The one area I still want to see tighten up is the passing defense, currently #42 nationally at 185.0 yards allowed per game. Once X get back healthy I can see the secondary improving greatly allowing Bryce to go back to his natural position deep safety and I can see Poyser continuing to play nickel in passing downs over Thornton.

We're 4–0. The young guys have gotten reps. The offense is #1 in the country. The defense is #2 overall and #1 against the run. Now the real season starts. Let's see what this team looks like when the games really matter.

Both our OT are late round draft picks. Let see how they hold up against Clemson And ND, but if we don't make it to the playoffs it is because of our line. We have had major injury to CB, RB, and WR so the injury bug has hit us. But, like you said. Preseason is over now it is time to put the chin straps on

Samson is absolutely not a late round draft pick. I don’t know what you’re seeing there and I can assure you it makes no sense.. Samson might be the best left tackle in college football this year.

Mario prior to the season, when asked what he would change about college football, answered no non-Saturday games. Particularly on Fridays, which he said belongs to H.S. ball.
