Orlando is wayyyy worse believe it or not. @TheOriginalCane will attest. When I lived there, and me and the GF would take a bike ride, it was nuts. Orlando & Tampa lead the state in Bicycle fatalities. It's not bad enough maneuvering throughout downtown on those ill-defined, uneven Brick roads, then you have to deal with the lunatics behind the wheel.

Even Sarasota is way busier than it used to be. Nowhere near big city bad but sad to see how much of Florida has lost its serenity

Used to ride my Pop’s bike from his house in Nokomis to the beach with a six pack for a swim 20yrs ago. Only thing that wouldn’t change in that story now is the six pack. Safer to just drink the beer than ride a bike a mile to the beach,

When I left Culinary school in 81 and moved & did my apprenticeship on Captiva Island, you simply couldn't ask for a more "Bike" friendly environment. Of course it's been many yrs, but Captiva/Sanibel Islands were an outstanding place for all outdoor activities then. **** shame what's happened to this state in regards to quality of life.

Doesn't help that FDOT basically serves as a marketing extension of the car manufacturers and has to be held at g**point to think of anyone other than the driver of a car. Case in point: we getting a double decker highway on the Julia Tuttle BABY!!!
