Some thoughts from Lake & Gaby:
- One of the things I noticed was the attention and respect Travaris Robinson warrants when he’s talking. He’s not a big screamer or anything like that, but it just seems like the defensive backs as a whole really tune in and listen when he’s talking, which is something you want to see from a unit that might have underperformed in 2020. Bob Shoop has also been highly invested in what is going on in the secondary and spent a lot of time around the group watching over drills.
Ishmael Aristide has a solid group of guys working there with Gilbert Frierson, Amari Carter and Chase Smith. All three guys showed off their athleticism throughout the 40 minute viewing period. Carter looks like a natural fit, while Smith is probably the most physically gifted of the three. He is long - similar to Frierson, but could potentially be best suited for the weak-side in this defense scheme.
Michael Redding III can make the contested catch. For the second practice in a row, he was a go-to target for Tyler Van Dyke on the long ball and found a way to come up with the grab despite tight coverage from Isaiah Dunson. We saw a lot of the same on Saturday during the last open session, so you like to see the consistency there from the Hurricanes biggest (size/weight) wide receiver. A big step from the second year former blue-chipper would be a treat for the Hurricanes offense
Navaughn Donaldson and Corey Gaynor had the most consistent showings of the offensive linemen during one-on-ones.
Nelson was limited today - worked on the sidelines with Jakai Clark
