Potential Saban successor

HeAlexCane:
I've wondered a little about Dabo's appeal of late. He obviously built a fantastic program, but I'd be a little skeptical if I was a Clemson fan about the oc and dc hires. What if Clemson struggles a bit again? Perception is so often built on what-have-you-done-lately that I wonder what his appeal will be in the next couple years if Clemson doesn't get back to its Lawrence/Watson years. I can envision folks crediting his success to Venables and the two coordinators both of whom went on to HC gigs.
This is a very good point. In terms of his coordinators turned HCs we will see how they do. I think Venables can do well at OU but he is a complete unknown as an HC. With Elliott , UVA is not an easy place to win at and I don't understand why he took that job in the first place.
Getting back to Dabo, I think he is the No.1 guy on the list to replace Saban. He's an alum and I don't see Saban hanging around for too much longer. Dabo just needs to stay the course and ride that defense to a 10+ win season and his appeal will be intact.
I too think Dabo is the #1 choice. But, man, what a run of QBs he had. How much was luck and how much was fantastic assessments who knows, but Boyd, Bryant, Watson, Lawrence were all excellent college QBs. I can envision Clemson dropping off a little, particularly if DJ does not improve. Knowing Dabo, he won't be reluctant to go to the true freshman Klubnik but that's asking a lot. And I think Venables was arguably the best coordinator in the game. I think that D will take a step back, despite their talent.

History says that whoever replaces a "legend" will fail. Think of Bama after the Bear, ND after Ara, the Packers after Vince, etc.
It’s Dano’s job if he wants it and you best believe, he wants it! His epic run at Clempson is coming to an end.

The Athletic was speculating on Saban’s successor. Mentioned Dabo first then Mario:

“Here’s another name to keep in mind: Mario Cristobal. Miami’s new coach left a strong impression during his four years in Tuscaloosa as offensive line coach (2013-16). He’s won big at Oregon, and if he can turn around the Hurricanes and the timing is just right, don’t be surprised if the Tide put the full-court press on him. Of course, Miami is home for Cristobal, too, which could complicate matters, especially if he returns the Canes to national prominence.”

Great to see the respect he gets. Josh Pate and Finebaum have both alluded to this also.
First of all Mario is going g to fi f a way to dominate Dabo in the ACC...then, when that SOB runs away to Bama and thinks he just inherited a Ferrari, Mario will dominate him in the SEC too and college football in general
