Potential Saban successor

The Athletic was speculating on Saban’s successor. Mentioned Dabo first then Mario:

“Here’s another name to keep in mind: Mario Cristobal. Miami’s new coach left a strong impression during his four years in Tuscaloosa as offensive line coach (2013-16). He’s won big at Oregon, and if he can turn around the Hurricanes and the timing is just right, don’t be surprised if the Tide put the full-court press on him. Of course, Miami is home for Cristobal, too, which could complicate matters, especially if he returns the Canes to national prominence.”

Great to see the respect he gets. Josh Pate and Finebaum have both alluded to this also.
Let’s retire that muther****er!

If Mario wins big here, it would be foolish to think Bama wouldn’t come calling.

However, I don’t think he’d seriously consider leaving unless they offer him absolutely outlandish money.

with the right resources/commitment, Mario can turn Miami into a much greater program than Bama could dream of...

And I know that sounds ludicrous but what resources does Bama have that Miami doesn't?

Miami has several there that Bama doesn't including the local talent and being in a world class international city.

Once Miami adds the winning and draft success, Bama will be a distant thought.

By the time he retires, college football will basically be a pro league and much more palatable to established pro coaches. Bama will not limit its pool to college coaches.

It will be neither. Dabo wants it and would’ve gotten it a few years ago but Saban probably coaches 3 or more years I bet and by then dabo shine will have worn off and Miami will be rolling so reason for Mario to leave

And potentially #3 if we don't get left out of conference realignment.
I've preferred to go with the BIG10 because of the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" theory. The biggest threat to ESPN's SEC regionalism is a true national brand with big sponsor capacity. To me, that appears more likely by becoming allies with the PAC10 powers + Notre Dame (within a conference that already has OSU, UMich, Wisconsin, etc.).

Who’s everyone saying he’s trash?
Oregon fans UF Fans FSU fans, they use his past record so they can feel better about him at UM. So by that they think he wont accomplish great things. But u need a University fully behind the man with the funds. Saban was **** at MSU and first year at Bama he was trash until he got the horses. Mario is an elite recruiter he will fix this but it will take a roster make over of elite classes with first round type talent then we will start eating. Elite recruiters as HC's with a university wanting to win will win eventually, there are only a few schools in America with the talent base that we have that can do this.

I'm not a Lane fan, but I don't think it's too far fetched. Saban has developed a machine and an infrastructure that a coach can inherit. I think Lane is good with the Xs and Os but bad with the administrative, program-building stuff, but that's already done for him at Bama. Plus, he'd have the resources to hire the best coordinators money can buy. I think he is a little too immature to trust him with the keys to that machine but I can see why it'd have some appeal.
Already done similar to a Coker but eventually would tail off

The one team who I fear MC might be receptive to if he returns the Canes to the top…is the miami dolphins

This speculation pops up from time to time about Saban/Alabama - each time it mistakenly assumes a steady-state environment. If Bama needs to replace Saban - they need to do it right now while they're on top.

In three or four years - Bama may still be an attractive job - but they may not be in the top seat - even WITH Saban.

College football is changing - fast. Bama/Georgia bag games used to be the ONLY games that enabled their stellar "recruiting" program.

UM/USC can put a whole 'nother twist on college football in the next three years - and alter the landscape completely.

Dabo is sitting in a good spot right where he is. And he knows it.

Let everyone postulate - the bottom will fall out of that sack in due time.
