We need to decide if Pruitt can be that 3rd safety and see what we have in Wallace and Ewald, can they be future starters at nickel or safety.A Nickel in Keionte Scott’s blue print and a safety to rotate behind Poyser and Fitzgerald. That’s it.

Can slide him right in at nickel![]()
Unless he wants to play nickel he isn't coming hereSame HS as upshaw. Had a terrific 2024 but was benched this year - weird stuff.
This staff is size obsessed. So probably Jaquez White, MJ Cannon or Jerome Carter. I'm a big fan of Simeon Harris and Kamari Wilson.Obviously seems like we need to just focus on getting a Scott replacement in portal as Fitzgerald will be FS and Poyser SS next year. Still absolutely need a portal Safety, but As far as NICKEL targets to maybe lure into the portal some guys based purely on stats and build, idk bout athleticism with all of them but here'd be a potential list from what I gather:
@Memnon @itsdolphhh can probably add other names, but:
- Jaquez White, Troy. From Georgia and already entered portal. 6'1" 190lbs. 66 tackles, 4.0% runstop%, and only 15.3 Misstackle%. 10 PBUs(!!) and 79.9 passrating allowed on 67 targets. 3 INTs but allowed 5 TDs. Graded at 86.6 in coverage (5th best among returning cbs next year) and 86.1 against the run this year. I think we should take a Hard look at trying to get this dude depending on his athleticism scores. Wasn't asked to rush a lot either, but when he was he did pretty good.
- Bo Mascoe, Rutgers. Already in portal. 5'11" 185ls. 42 tackles, 3.4 Runstop%, and only 10.3 misstackle%. 3 PBU, 108.7 Passrating allowed on 44 targets. 83.6 Cover grade with a 52.4 RunD grade this year. last year had 62.3 RunD grade with a 77.6 Cover Grade. So maybe a bit like Smith/Scott from Auburn/Kentucky as higher level guy but instead of being more Run Stop oriented he's more pure cover. But He had good tackling grade all season and played for Schiano. Could be a great fit.
--- Imo those 2 guys should probably be the top portal targets, aftr them you got some lower level guys that could move up, or guys who maybe could improve on our defense --
- Simeon Harris, Fresno St. 5'11" 185lbs. Graded well against the Run and in Coverage. 45 tackles, 7.2 runstop%, and 11.9 Misstackle%. 5 PBUs and only a 42.7 pass rating allowed on 66 targets! Excellent stats tbh.
- Mister Clark, FIU. I remember him mentioned a lot last year, and this year should be no different. 6'0" 185lbs. 57 tackles, 4.1% runstop%, 16.5 misstackle%. 9 PBUs and a 78.5 passrating allowed on 69 targets.
- Sylvester Smith, Auburn. Maybe the replacement is just from the same school? 6'0 195lbs. He's the guy that went to Slot for Auburn and Scott went to Outside CB. Graded well against he run with 24 tackles, 9.2 runStop%, and only 12.1 MissTackle%. Only 3 PBUs though and a 101 pass rating allowed on 25 targets. So not the best there in coverage. 81.6 RunD grade and 66.7 Coverage Grade ths year.
- Quay'sheed Scott, Kentucky. 24 tackles, 3.4% runstop%, 19.5% misstackle%. 4 PBU, 82.6 passrate allowed on 24 targets. Not as good stats as the others, but did it at a higher level in the SEC, kinda like Sylvester Smith. But he had a 77.4 Cover Grade and 73.6 RunD grade so better graded. AND last year he had a 70.3 Cover grade too but far fewer targets.
- Braden Turner, Northwestern. 5'11" 195lbs. From Alabama. 40 tackles, 4.5% runstop%, and only 15% misstackle%. Only 2 PBus and a 100.9 Pass rating allowed on 38 targets. Only had a 61.3 RunD grade this year and a 79.4 Coverage grade, but last year had a 85.9 RunD grade with a 62.4 Coverage grade. Seems he's not the best in coverage so far though.
- MJ Cannon, Bowling Green. 6'3" 205lbs. 41 tackles, 12.5 misstackle%. 1 PBU 2 INT 71.5 pass rating on 45 targets. Has graded good 3 years in a row. on 2,213 career snaps over 3 seasons only has allowed 59.5% reception% and a 72.1 Pass rating. 10 PBUs, 8 INTs and 7 TDs allowed on 158 targets. This year was primarily in slot, first two years was outside CB.
- Five Hamilton, Kennesaw st. Already in portal. 5'10" 177lbs. Probably a little too small for what we want to run, but a really good cover nickel. 31 tackles, 5.2% runstop%, and 18.9 misstackle%. Only 2 PBUs, 69.2 passrate allowed on 27 targets. Graded out well in Coverage and against the run though. Size is probably biggest concen. Same for a guy like Jaion Jackson out of Central Michigan.
- DJ Barksdale, JMU. 5'9" 181lbs. A little short. But great coverage and run grades 3 years in a row. This year 26 tackles 19.5 misstackle%, 10 PBUs and 85.8 pass rating allowed on 62 targets. 54.8 reception%
- Christian Bodnar , Liberty. 5'11" 185lbs. Last year graded elite on only 176 snaps. This year was good on 581 snaps. Productive as a pass rusher.
- Jahiem Johnson, Tulane. 6'0 189lbs. 37 tackes 21% misstackle%. 10 PBUs, 84.2 pass rating allowed on 70 targets. Started the season very strong but then kinda slowed down.
Whichever of these guys have the best explosiveness and short area quickness (especially if they are bigger) is the guy we should rock with. All the guys I listed had a good season and put up good numbers and have experience… so if they have the athleticism…This staff is size obsessed. So probably Jaquez White, MJ Cannon or Jerome Carter. I'm a big fan of Simeon Harris and Kamari Wilson.
We are one of the teams being mentioned with Boo Carter who would be Scott's replacement here in my opinion. I know their are character red flags that have to be answered. We do have Thomas that I assume has already filled the staff in on his thoughts with Carter.Obviously seems like we need to just focus on getting a Scott replacement in portal as Fitzgerald will be FS and Poyser SS next year. Still absolutely need a portal Safety, but As far as NICKEL targets to maybe lure into the portal some guys based purely on stats and build, idk bout athleticism with all of them but here'd be a potential list from what I gather:
