This is actually IMO the best possible scenario.
If Lucas is supposedly as good as is being reported & can play Safety, then just from a #'s standpoint it would make the most sense to play him at Safety & either add another Corner, or just allow one of the FR's the opportunity to get reps on the 2nd or 3rd team.
Keeping XL at Corner while there's a glaring need at starting Safety kinda defeats the purpose of adding O'Connor & Brantley.
Especially Brantley, he's never played Nickel in his career & force-feeding him into that position in order to get him on field & fulfill obligations is a bit backwards to me.
Well it appears Brantley is gunna be the nickel regardless by the looks of it. But yeah I just don't see why we would spend so big on Poyser, Lucas, O'Connor, Brantley, and Likely give OJ a deserved bump and still need to spend big on a starting Safety...
Ewald seems like he's going to be backup nickel to Brantley. I mean maybe they repeat Damari being Nickel like they tried last year if Brantley were to get hurt... but Ewald is gunna be a nickel.
Fitgerald at this point imo desperately needs to be moved to WR cause we have like 6 guys there.
Richard is out with his torn ACL for probably the entire season then likely hitting the portal for his final year.
Damari, Antione, and Karnley, and Ryan Mack are still backing up at CB, which honestly is fine to legit pretty good as CB 4-6.... And again Portal CB seems to be much better than Safety. Add a Cheapish Backup Safety and one of these cheapish Backup CB types with 2 yrs eligibility each, and put the savings towards DT...
**** I'd move Lucas and Damari to Safety, Add a pretty good portal CB, and then just go for a developmental Safety with multiple years that you hope could maybe win the job with Poyser the following year or year after...
