Potential Portal DB’s (CB’s & S’s only)

Don't particularly get why we aren't moving Lucas to Safety tbh.
We have 5 likely high priced Experienced DBs currently: Brantley, OJ, Lucas, Poyser, O'Conner. Two of those guys have Safety Experience. Only 5 are likely to get significant snaps in any given game. Then You add Damari Brown to that list, and it is clearly to me that to get the best players on the field we should absolutely be going with Lucas at Safety along with Poyser.

I guess if we can get another top Portal Safety, sure. But Having Lucas play Safety imo actually has a big impact because it reduces the need to spend big on DB in portal, and for us to NEED a safety. And maybe that frees up more money for WR and DT....

We still need a safety no matter what, but like We just brought in a very big freshman CB class who are talented, brought in 2 portal CBs, have 1 Starting CB returning, and have Damari who was in line to start last year (who also could/should move to safety!).... Just not seeing why we wouldn't try to have Lucas be our starting Safety... Seems like we are bringing in that UF Safety as a depth Safety. Don't think he is really enough, but I'm fine with it if it meant additional money at DT. But it'd require Lucas and maybe even Damari at Safety and then have Spring Portal DB be less pressing of a need, and allow us to just get the best one we can for a good price...

Any thoughts @Coach Macho @Memnon ?
Because Xavier Lucas is legit CB1 , That 30 Teams Choose first every NFL Draft. AKA a First rounder

yea im not moving my best cb to safety. lol

Someone else out that grouping you said may though. Maybe Damari gets that move ..but this cb room looks good on paper.

If OJ plays or even steps up a tad from last year that grouping of him and Lucas, with oconner and nickel will be special. we probably play close to 4 outside cbs regularly i...Brantley is probably gonna be stricktly a nickel maybe thats where he and Damari sit at.

Neither of those guys but I totally agree with you. He’s a good corner but likely an nfl safety. I’ve heard conflicting reports. A few people at were going Safety others sayinG CB and move x Lucas to safety. I like the latter more bc the scarcity of safety talent vs relatively more cb talent

I guess if he is the clear best CB on the team you leave him there, but I'm skeptical he will be. If he is though I guess you let OJ and O'Conner battle it out for the 2nd outside CB spot.

I guess the good news is Hetherman seems like he will do what he can to get the best 11 on the field and will likely have guys for specific packages/Use-cases. But no way are we primarily going to be in a 4 CB look lol. Like I'd be shocked if we were in Dime more than 15-20% of the time. Idk man, to me Lucas at Safety guarantees your 5 best DBs on the field like 75%+ of the time. Especially if Lucas' position at the next level may be safety anyway... Then if you want the bigger presence like a Big Nickel you swap Damari for Brantley. It would be FAR cheaper to choose this path as well, and imo would lead to a Better DT addition in the portal cause is saves money on starting safety.

Doesn't really answer it here:

Curious why you feel that way when we've heard nothing but the fact that he's been the best CB and often player on that side of the ball this spring.

I think he's really big and probably isn't the smoothest in his hips and changing directions. But @Coach Macho knows him better and @Memnon is the CB guru.

I'm just saying if you had to have a starting 5 with just our current DB group, no way Lucas or possibly Damari aren't currently starting at Safety. But the problem with Damari is he's never played it, even if he probably would be a good fit..

Gotcha, wasn't trying to be a **** or anything just was genuinely curious since all I've seen/heard was that X looks like by far our best corner through spring. I know I saw someone say he has experience at Safety and Hetherman likes to move guys around so who knows.

I am hoping Houston's S - AJ Haulcy enters the portal and Etheridge snatches him up as our starter. Then Harris snatch Greg Smith for depth this season. Smith would probably have a good shot at the 2 deep.
