Post Scrimmage details

I remember being concerned when Jayden Wayne and Nyjalik Kelly both hit the portal after spring.

Then I remember reading somewhere that Cole McConathy had passed both of them up. As high as I was on McConathy, I was still skeptical. Perhaps that was unwarranted concern on my part.

if u were in his recruiting thread when we offered i probably was the FIRST to say go all in on him because he has one thing i look for in DL......MOTOR.

Me playing Left tackle for years...its something i know to be a problem..and something i have an uncanny ability to evaluate right away after all the hours of having to watch practice film and game film as a player and then some as a coach.

I had high ratings on Cole and was happy as **** when he flipped i stated Louisville was getting a steal out of Bama.
I’m not a film junkie. Everything I know about evaluating talent was learned on this board, but this was how I felt about Bain.

Obviously a different player but he was pure motor and he had the intangible of wanting to murder every qb he saw.

Considering how it has now become evident that he’s the next Ted Hendricks/Rusty Medearis/Kevin Patrick/Bill Hawkins and will likely go on to have an NFL HOF career at least as good as JJ Watt’s career…yeah, I’d say your concerns were just a little unwarranted.

This conversation always immediately devolves into something strange for sure

I’m with you

My concern isn’t Emory. I love the kid. Gave his arm to try and get a first down against FSU he’s good in my book.

My thing is the staff brought in Poff specifically to beat out Emory and be the starter potentially. I think the staff saw the same things like we gotta bring in more competition there

It’s still a question mark to me our QB evals and if Poff can’t beat out Emory, that’s not ideal.

But I think most people understand that
Fans need to understand that Poff is not a P4 QB. He’s not a P4 caliber starting QB and not even a viable P4 backup QB. Simple as that. The Miami staff already knows this.

Nobody passed Kelley up . **** I pray we bring him back. Just a really bad night and thats all that needs to be said.

It is absolutely true that so much of this is exactly believable.

What an amazing job he did yesterday. A game changer in the truest sense of the wird

And you know this because???

I don’t get the point of posting a comment like this as it’s not much more than veiled hatred combined with a built in “ told ya so” in the event things don’t work out for Poff here. Unless you have access to full practices (you don’t), this sentiment is based on pure speculation. Miss me on that.

What is it that you saw on film that impressed you?

For me, something I'm learning to put more value in is motor for DL. So many pressures/sacks are the result of pure, unadulterated effort. I rated McConathey about where sites had him because I didn't value his combination of first step quickness, motor, length enough.

Even though I'm typically drawn to production and motor, I feel like I let the fact that Alabama didn't chase him hard cloud my eyes I think.

The feedback I've gotten from two different places today is that he is going to play a ton and even had some looks with players who might be first on the field at the beginning of a game. Score one for the coaches above my evaluation.

confirmation bias. or in this case, "confirmation acquiescence."

can happen to the best of us. 😜 😁
