If Manny brings in a competent OC, he has a chance to be very successful here. Plus if he crashes and burns, I think he'll have a shorter leash than another hire because he'll be seen as a continuation of the Richt era rather than a whole new regime. Not blown away with this hire, but I think it's relatively low-risk. And at the end of the day, I'd say we are MUCH better off right now than we were this morning.
 
The flipside - just playing devil's advocate.

1 - Has never proven it as a lead guy.
2 - Has never killed it on the trail.
3 - LB unit has regressed under his supervision last 2 years.
4 - Questionable hires on defensive side (one of the best hires, Jess Simpson, was a Richt guy). Makes you wonder what types of decision he will make for other coaching/program moves.
5 - Has struggled at other schools along the way. The Miami D has been great but the ACC offenses are weak and this team tended to get exposed by the better offenses we played the last few years.
 
No. 5 on your list (young and hungry) is the biggest one for me, and it pretty much informs the rest of your list. It doesn’t seem like he settles for bull****. If he smells it, he will find it and fix it. At least that’s what I see. He wants to win, and I think it drives him crazy when things don’t work. He will not be satisfied.
 
It's Okay hire. We focus on the "lazy hire" part and we ignore all the good attributes. Manny has a lot of good things go offer.

lol we had possibly the worst offensive performance ever.

That lost us the game. D was on the field all game and got worn down, esp with no Willis or Jackson.

DIaz is a lazy hire, but let's not act like he isnt a really good DC
 
Sure not as bad as it seems but it just doesn’t seem right to not interview anyone else. Seems like Manny just walked in and they handed him the job lol

Richt probably hasn't come to clean his office out yet. You talk about people not giving it critical thought. What in the AF did the decision makers do - it sure doesn't sound like they had a period of ***ing critical thought. I hope to *** that I'm wrong - because I do like Manny - but the guy has zero experience as a P5 head coach, and we've been a dumpster fire for going on two MF decades. Sunofabitches made a lazy, knee jerk decision.
 
I like Manny, I really do, but this is not the time or the place for a first time HC, regardless of how he “fits” or how “young and hungry” he is. You cannot rush a hire like this. You just can’t. For Flake to go this route this quickly confirms for me what I suppose we already knew...he has no confidence in himself, or ability to actually evaluate a football coach based on qualifications and resume.

You have to talk to a handful of guys at least. Babers, Campbell, **** Mario who I can’t even bear the thought of, Butch Davis, there are a bunch of dudes you are OBLIGATED to reach out to and interview.

This is absolutely pathetic and makes a mockery of our football program.

1. Manny understands that we need schemes (offense and defense) that fit our local talent base. He probably understands this better than any candidate out there. He would identify weaknesses on the team and address them.
3. He understands that you can't just line up and beat the other team with talent. There was an article with quotes from Diaz where he said exactly this. I don't have the link, but in that article he stated that you have to scheme advantages for your guys wherever you can. Tilt the odds in your guys favor. Reading that was music to my ears. That's the name of the game in 2018 and beyond.
4. Combining #1 and #3 above, is there any doubt that Manny would go out and hire an innovative light up the scoreboard oc? I have no doubt that he would.
5. He's young and hungry.
6. He'll be aggressive. No more taking a knee before half or being afraid to run up the score. He would be pedal to the metal.

All of this is true, but I need to see what he does in recruiting and what changes he makes to the coaching staff.

Burn the program down. This school is nothing short of a cruel joke at this point.

There is a 0% chance Campbell would even pick up the phone.

Our fans really are clueless and somehow think everyone would be interested in coaching here
