Who ends up backing up Bain and Mesidor should probably be the position battle. I'd also expect one or two of the ones who dont win the backup jobs to portal out come winter
No reason to. Mesidor will be out of eligibility and Bain could possibly leave for the NFL if he has a great season.

Proven commodity over an 18 year old with potential.

That said. We could do a a lot worse than having Blount as a third DE/Pass rush package guy.

Bain & Mesidor will no doubt start. Lightfoot & Blount should be the next two off the bench with Pickett Jr & Lowe the third wave.

Brother that was 3 years ago. Idk anyone to regain form 3 years later.

Could very well never be as healthy as '22 with a foot injury, but playing overweight and in moved inside last year certianly doesn't confirm his lack of production to me.

His weights back down to 260, he's getting buzz again... lets not forget he was the best player on the team in 22.

Couldn't go more than 5 sentences in Upon Further Review without Lance gushing about him.

If he'll never get close to that again i'm hoping for some twitch there but not sure we have any that aren't 230- pounds (Unless Lowe is really ready to go)

im not sure thats a certainty considering depending how bain plays....he and mesidor will be out of the door. Though i would love to keep Bain...its the s.fla story...If he has a year we can see him having he is OUT OF HERE.
Yea anyone think a win is staying with a good year is crazy. If he staying he regressed or got injured

As always we are remembering the most favorable statistics. That '22 team was terrible and 80% of his sack production came in 2 games. I'm not advocating for him to transfer out, but imo he presents a clear ceiling for our defense. I'd like to see him in a DE3 rotational role. Personally, I think our All-American safety was the best player on the team.

It's not just statistis. It's eye test, PFF grades, more analysis from Lance and others.

If you think 22 Mesidor Is a thing of the past, understandable - but if not - based on reports in spring theres no end on the roster ready to surpass Mesidor's production in 22 YET imo.

Mesidor will start and produce on a high level in this defense. He should be a force against the run going up against mostly TEs on the boundary side of the field.
If you’re using the term “he should be” for a 5th year senior then he ain’t the guy, teams across America are using a true freshman or red shirt freshman to help impact their team, but he at miami where 4 and 5 stars players can’t even beat out a geriatric DE

I've seen Mesidor, I'm hopeful some of the younger DE have a higher ceiling. That is the basis for my stance. '22 was cool, but I personally would like something better. I'm ok with disagreeing.

No I know where you're coming from. We need bend, speed and power around the edge. The best thing for the future of the program is one of these young guys outperforming a prime Mesidor. Lowe is our best shot at the full package imo

I’m not sure who started the “Bench Akheem Mesidor” fam club, but it has to be in the CIS hall of fame as the dummest take of all time. Mesidor has been selected to the All Conference team every season of his career that he has been fully healthy. He is a leader who has consistently taken on the challenge to play out of position to help his team, at West Virginia he even played Nose Tackle. He has been very productive every season he has started averaging 5.5 sacks and 8.5 TFLs. He has only played one full season at DE which was the 2022 season, posting the best single season stats of his career, and that’s with playing 2 less games than he played the other two seasons as a starter (2021 & 2024). That in itself should tell you him playing DE exclusively is best for both him and this team.

In 2022 he only played in 11 games, not the normal 12-13. So if he averaged his 2022 states even with 1-2 less games per season here is how he would have ranked on those Miami defensive lines from 2011 - 2021, that had 8 players drafted.

If you think any staff is benching a player with these numbers you don’t know football at all. Yes the 5star behind him will play and play a lot, but if Miami is serious about winning at all he starts every game this season.

The usual suspects who lack real football knowledge

I used the phrase “he should be” simply because he has not played DE since 2022 so no one can say for certain how he will play the run from the outside as a stand up rusher. The last time he played DE he was playing it in a different scheme and in the scheme he was an All Conference player.

To say a 4 time All Conference play is a “genetic DE” is crazy work.

On top of that it’s not like who starts even matters. The defensive line will rotate heavily. D Lewis stated in an interview that he wants to see the defensive lineman rotate every 6 plays. Mesidor will play around 30 snaps per game leaving more than enough snaps for those 5 stars to prove that they can become All Conference players the way Mesidor has every single year he has started.

I appreciate ur enthusiasm for doing all that homework. Nice job
