We will be fine at TE. Just made the championship game with bauman. I get we have great history at the position and I think that plays into it a lot. Majority of people can’t name who Indiana TE was last year. And the crazy part is he was similar to lofton being more of a h back type at 6’1 240. As long as they aren’t just a cone out there and give effort we will be ok
Think about how bad bauman was and then think about how many snaps we still played him. Now he’s gone and what was behind him will get those snaps, thats not something to brush over
Also alot of people, draft analysis highlighted Indiana’s tight end. But people think TEs are just WRs, indiana run game was their offense and their tight end was a huge part of it. Way better blocker than lofton ever showed
And that’s my point. Bauman wasn’t good at anything so at the least I think they will be better in the passing game. And we don’t need lofton to become an elite blocker just be solid. Viti played fb and was o-line coach at army. So he is experienced as a player and coach in blocking and he should help in that regard
Our TE room is currently Lofton, players who couldn’t beat out Alex Bauman last year, a converted DE, and true freshman.
Add in the ridiculously little level of experience with only 1 player who has ever played snaps at TE before and I think it’s fair to be worried about the position.
Maybe the coaching will improve or maybe TE doesnt matter but hard to be confident in the state of that room right now.
