you lose locker rooms over this ****.
I’m no expert on lockerooms. But why? Everyone and their deceased ancestors know we suck at TE. It’s not like we’re shopping for a bunch, but a single add at an obv weakness?
Do we have a TE on our roster other than Lofton who has played a single snap? Hard to believe Mario is good with that.

Luka Gilbert played a little, he’d be the one getting his PT cut a bit. I’ll also add Lofton isn’t really a traditional TE, and when he bulked up to be a blocker more like a traditional TE he sucked. Also we played multiple TEs fairly frequently. So to me it’ shouldn’t be controversial besides the annoyance of him waltzing into the room. But we can ease him into pt if it’s really an issue. He still would have to earn it

Gilbert tore his ACL and is out for the year. Add in the fact that Lofton isn’t a traditional TE and we should be borderline desperately looking to upgrade that room.

Don’t know if it would lose the locker room but guys at that position are pull probably be ****ed. You have guys who have been putting in work all off season thinking they would get a shot just to bring in somebody to take your reps 2 weeks before the season

I didn’t realize Gilbert was out. Yeah we should be DESPERATE. I don’t really care about Pyburn and the BYU dude, we have internal option. (would never decline more proven talent tho)

But TE is a unique case, and I’m **** sure paid athletes with the natty on the mind recognize this. These guys are professionals, they understand that we need an infusion of talent. Mario should’ve been all over this.

We run plenty of multi TE sets, and Lofton is half H-Back himself. There would still be plenty of snaps for a mueller, ruskavich, Briggs fight.

Either way this team has instilled in them this is a major natty contender. They can be a little jived, but they know this room was **** weak before Luka went down.

They’re paid, they can have their feelings a little hurt.

you have dudes who hustled all spring and summer/fall gearing up for the season in 2 weeks and then you bring someone in to take their reps? yeah its not exactly building the right culture.

I mean yeah. But I have to imagine they know the room is highly inadequate. I don’t see why it should be anything more than we gotta compete. The standard isn’t 7-5, it’s natty.

Even still we have an “easy” start to the season. You still let them compete. Wright won’t be the only one with PT. Sit him a lot the first few weeks. Make him earn it still.

We will be fine at TE. Just made the championship game with bauman. I get we have great history at the position and I think that plays into it a lot. Majority of people can’t name who Indiana TE was last year. And the crazy part is he was similar to lofton being more of a h back type at 6’1 240. As long as they aren’t just a cone out there and give effort we will be ok

Indiana’s TE got drafted. Yea he’s in Lofton’s profile, but he can actually block. Can’t say that about our TE’s. No matter how we shake it, we desperately need more talent at the position

Eh no. Freshman sure, but experienced and healthy?

Lofton is talented, but more of a flex guy. Ruskovich and Nickel are basically walk ons. Gilbert would’ve been an ok option but he’s out for the year. Carver / Cole who the f knows.

Lofton can play inline in college at times. But you can move him around. Put him in the backfield, flex him out, fb etc. these guys freshman or not will be better than bauman just off physical ability alone. The guy ran 5.2 and wasn’t physical at all. We will be fine

Think about how bad bauman was and then think about how many snaps we still played him. Now he’s gone and what was behind him will get those snaps, thats not something to brush over

Also alot of people, draft analysis highlighted Indiana’s tight end. But people think TEs are just WRs, indiana run game was their offense and their tight end was a huge part of it. Way better blocker than lofton ever showed

And that’s my point. Bauman wasn’t good at anything so at the least I think they will be better in the passing game. And we don’t need lofton to become an elite blocker just be solid. Viti played fb and was o-line coach at army. So he is experienced as a player and coach in blocking and he should help in that regard

Our TE room is currently Lofton, players who couldn’t beat out Alex Bauman last year, a converted DE, and true freshman.

Add in the ridiculously little level of experience with only 1 player who has ever played snaps at TE before and I think it’s fair to be worried about the position.

Maybe the coaching will improve or maybe TE doesnt matter but hard to be confident in the state of that room right now.

The room wasn’t good last year and still was in the title game. The staff chose not to bring in a guy in the portal and go with the young guys. So it is what it is
