Pope and Lingaurd - PT

It's not likely to happen this year but I would really like the opportunity to see what Burns can do with some PT.

Agreed. JT needs rest and he is not a special PT anyway.
We can agree to disagree on JT as a punt returner. He was dinged up Saturday but you could see that he is very close to breaking through. He is playing with so much more confidence this year and letting his instincts take over. That punt return in the 4th quarter was a thing of beauty and he came so close to making a house call. Keep in mind that I am strictly referring to his PR ability in this post. As a WR he is elite. As a punt returner he has elite potential IMO. As a matter of fact I am willing to go on the record and state that from now to the end of the season, JT will house 2+ punts.

Now I absolutely agree that JT could use some rest. We don't want our most explosive offensive player to be worn out during the stretch run. We have the players th will allow him to take a week or off of special teams.

With a bye coming up too after the Virginia game, I’m hoping that is a good opportunity to start working those two in more, along with other freshmen in other spots.

I would like to see Pope worked in at the Flanker. And, in motion. I’m not sure what you do in coverage against a fast-paced lineup of Cager/Wiggins/Hightower, Jordan, J. Thomas and Pope. ****, keep the RB in to chip and release. Thomas is going to get so much attention the second half of the season that, if we don’t move him around (and there isn’t a ton of evidence we would, but who knows), we’ll have to use him to clear out. A flanker running underneath will have nothing but green grass ahead.

In any case, if Thomas is at all hobbled this upcoming week, perhaps Pope will split some reps with Harley out of the slot. Pope massively stood out in Fall camp - in terms of acceleration and ability to run different routes.
Is blocking his biggest deterrent for not getting on the field much right now?

@Stefan Adams or anyone else that would know. What has their attitude been like? Both were all world and neither are playing very much at all. I hope they keep their heads in the game and are ready for their opportunity and also they don't get an itch and transfer.

Pope hasn't been on Campus for 6 months and Lingard does deserve some reps...not sure why he isn't getting any.

He could do what James Jackson did relieving Edge when JJ was a youngster. Edge fcked them up and then JJ came in and busted a bunch of long runs.
Whatever happened to Jackson shame we don't hear more about him.he is one of our unsung heroes for sure.

CMR has proven that he's not afraid to play freshmen IF they are the best alternative.

As for Pope and Lingard both are extraordinary talents who happen to be playing behind players that are currently playing lights out football.

It's like being in the Miami of championship years....it won't be given....it must be earned.

The benefits we get from JT on PR are far outweighed by the benefits we can get from a fresh JT as a WR. He needs to take less hits and maximize his touches on offense. Also, we have some many potential players that can assume that responsibility who get less PT. Let’s be honest, we are not talking about Devin Hester here.
