Pod is out with Dawson and they had Guidry last week. Dawson is seemingly the most simple OC and he seems to be really level headed. Not sure if he will ever recruit well but I’m hoping this simplistic approach gets us 33PPG

That easy-going Cajun charm hides a lot of forceful personality.

Cajuns are like Ninja's. Sneaky - you'll see an empty room - but it will contain two-dozen Cajuns.

Just about the time you think you've got a grip on one - you get snake-bit right in the . . . backside - just as you relaxed.

Want to talk about an eclectic group! Cajuns, Yankees, Metropolitan kids, flatlanders, Big CIty boys, small town stars, on and on and on.

This is gonna be fun!

10+.

He sounds like exactly the type of coach TVD needs to be honest

And while people will have a point when they say “this time of year it always sounds good” but it wasn’t like that with Gattis. I remember thinking wow this guy is insufferable when he would talk

I think this was about his ****** time at kentucky
Don't forget he was also at Southern Miss with another defensive coach for one year and didn't do that well. Let's hope Mario let's him be aggressive and not be to conservative. There's a happy medium between Mike Leach (RIP) and Brian Ferentz who had 3 of the lowest scoring game in fbs

Found it interesting that he said alot of the success for a coach is their relationship with the HC, and the offense that he runs has the element of attack all the time and if the HC is a conservative coach by nature then it might be an issue.. Hmmm..
He’s been around long enough to be able to determine pretty quick whether or not he’s a fit with a certain HC. I think there’s a big misconception that the Air Raid offense is Leach throwing the ball 50-60 times a game. Dawson said that over time, he’s figured out that if he can run the ball effectively, it makes the passing game easy. I’d say that basic principle was attractive to Mario.

I’m actually excited to see what this offense will look like. Between a revived TVD, a promising OL, a very good stable of RB’s, and what I believe is an under rated WR corp, I think we can be pretty good.

Obviously, it was about his past experiences but lets not act like the elephant in the room of mario also being known as a conservative caveman who has a lets say perception of nerfing offenses. I just thought it was interesting because he was talking about the past but could of been foreshadowing the future also, lets hope Mario has evolved and adapted and lets his OC be aggressive

I agree overall, I am fully aware of evolution of air raid and found it funny that even the name being uttered on here made guys think its 90% pass when there are plenty of air raid offenses thru the years that had better run games than what we have put on field.. I too have been saying if we have an NFL qb, revamped oline, multiple options at skill positions with deep wr, te and rb cores and an offense that is supposed to be qb friendly then why wouldnt we be more bullish on the offense. If Mario is a good coach and turned over the roster why expectations soo low with NFL qb.

He was OC/WR coach at USM for three seasons. They averaged 32.8, 29.2 and 26.2 points. That third season was kind of a dud but his first two years the offense was pretty good. But to your point, their defensive minded coach molded the team more towards ball control style so while their defensive numbers got better every year, their offense got worse. Also, Nick Mullens was a really good QB in 2016, The next two years they kind of threw a bunch of mediocre guys out with mixed results.

Came away thinking this would be much like Lashlee with more running concepts. Simple playbook, simple route schemes but yet more emphasis and creativity in the run game.

The personnel will make it easier to get creative in the run game. Lashlee learned the game from Gus Malzahn, one of the premier run-offense coaches in the modern game. It's just that you're limited in what you can call with a really poor run blocking line and a running back room so shallow, you need to rely on walk-ons during actual games. People here think Rhett Lashlee is some kind of Air Raid, throw the ball every down, coach. He only had to do that here because there was no other option in 2021. If anything, Shannon Dawson has been more pass heavy for a majority of his career.

That is exactly my take away as well. Frankly, that is what I have wanted all along.

Regardless, we have a better OC, a better OL, better RB room, and a faster WR core. Absolutely no reason why we don't win 8/9 games.

Those are fair points. Line did suck. But I fail to see how that prevents one from running more than 2 running plays. 2 might be an exaggeration but that’s certainly what it felt like. I mean if nothing else don’t you have to run numerous run plays just to keep the defense guessing, whether successful or not?
