Please stop comparing Richt with 1.) Saban's first year at Bama or 2.) Harbaugh's first year at Stanford or 3.) Pete Carrol's first year at SC. It makes you look desperate and unintelligent. What has Richt done in his career to be compared to any of these coaches? It's not like he's been without opportunities. He's NEVER done anything in his career to be compared to or described as an ELITE coach. He's a decent program manager that put together a respectable program at UGA and failed to ever "get over the hump".

His "specialty" is supposed to be offense and he's getting it completely shoved up his ***. We return 10 starters from last years offense and have by many standards regressed. That's actually hard to do. What that shows me is his rigid philosophy is not adapting to the current players strengths (ex. offensive line / Kaaya).

The BEST we can hope for with Richt is he 1.) relinquishes play calling duties 2.) hires a savage OC with a completely different offensive philosophy from his own (ya know one that can actually take advantage of your recruiting base and talent advantage) 3.) maintain a semblance of continuity on the defensive side of the ball when Manny leaves in a couple years (max) 4.) actually starts winning some recruiting battles for the ELITE players in SFL.

Thing is we ALL want Richt to succeed but there is going to have to be some changes made......that much is painfully obvious. If you can't discuss the topic of Mark Richt without becoming an oversensitive ****, then please refrain from discussing said topic. And let's please stop comparing him with elite coaches.....because sadly there is nothing elite about Richt and probably never will be.

Carroll was a laughed at hire at USCw. He was their 4th choice after 3 people turned them down. Nobody knew after he started 2-5 in 2001 that he'd create a CFB dynasty. Everybody thought he was a corch at that point.

Saban was good at LSU but not really a world beater. Nobody realized he'd win 4 NCs after he lost to La Monroe.

Saban is a very good coach but he wasn't lighting the world on fire at either MSU or LSU because he didn't have the Bama booster money.

On pure coaching skills, there are probably a few, not a ton but a few, coaches in the country who are better. Look what Chris Petersen is doing at UW.

He was 48-16 at LSU for .750. Good but not exactly anything that would land you on the greatest coaches of all time list. Richt was .744 at UGA over a longer period of time than Saban was at LSU.

I mean, it's gotten sad at this point.

Saban had the better record, head to head, both places. https://www.canesinsight.com/thread/mark-richt-vs-nick-saban-games/99488

Face it, Saban is the better coach. There is no rational argument to the contrary. These are facts:

1. Saban, at his "lesser" job, had a higher win percentage than Richt, and a better head to head record. They were in the same conference.
2. Saban, at his current job, has a higher win percentage than Richt, and a better head to head record. They were in the same conference.
3. Saban won multiple national championships, including championships at two schools.
4. Richt was at Georgia from 2001-2015.
5. Saban was at LSU from 1999-2004.
6. Saban is at Alabama since 2007.
7. Richt was at Georgia longer than Saban had either job.

Subjectively:

1. You can hire one, who do you pick?

Exactly.

Now let's end this and move on. Richt is our coach.

There is no argument Nick Saban is a better coach than Mark Richt.

They're not in the same stratosphere.

If you want to call Richt a "program manager" you at least have to admit that he's a **** fine one.

Fact is Saban went 7-6. All your fancy intelligence and cogent arguments can't change that fact. Therefore, if Rick goes 7-6 this year, Papa Legba and the Voodoo Gods tell us that we will win 4 NCs in the succeeding decade.

I feel so much better now.

I'm starting to think some people on this board don't like the Richt hire. Am I interpreting this right?

Not comparing but he's won just as many championships as Harbaugh and hasn't left a program on probation like Carroll.

Well let's compare Mark Richt as a Head Coach at a new job to Mark Richt! Novel idea I know!

Mark Richt 8-4(5-3)-1st season UGA-Music City Bowl
Mark Richt 13-1(7-1)-2nd season UGA-Sugar Bowl
