Which plays - like Bennie Blades high-five to Selwin Brown in the Miami over ND, 58-7 eventually lead to the Miami Rule? We need a list and a video . . .

Well . . . Of course . . . This one is where we end up. But we didn't get here overnight. The media began calling us out long before the actual rule. I gleefully remember Mr. Irvin making a contribution to this trend (maybe, more than one) by extending the ball forward as he ran into the EZ, etc. The media began clucking and sucking their teeth long before the Texas game . . .

The "miami rule" I think you speak of, excessive celebration, was specifically implemented in the season after Miami's humiliation of Texas futbol at the Cotton Bowl. From AD to Erickson to equipment runners, the program was roundly criticized for the "out of control" antics pre/during/post game. Some in NCAA pushed for Erickson to be suspended.

Miami players were ****ed about being left out/cheated of NC that year and snapped the f[]cking horns off of Bevo.

Edit: I misread the topic....It says The Miami Rule....I mistook it for Miami's Rule.....But, since I wrote the whole fking post already, here it is, in its off base glory:

This isn't a specific play, but a game. Miami's 17 - 14 victory over #1 ranked Penn State at the Orange Bowl in 1981 with Jim Kelly at QB....

This was the first time I started to feel like Miami could compete with anyone under Schnellenberger, after a really wretched run through most of the 60s and 70s....

Here's the video to prove it happened...warning, it's 2+ hours, but it was one of the pivotal moments in the history of the program which helped the Canes rise from lowly punching bag to Masters of the College Football Universe over the next 20 years......

Exactly . . . However, seen through the nostalgic, sepia glow of yesteryear, I'm ready to revel in the unsportsmanlike, I mean, zealous steps that lead to the masterful performance that was the Cotten Bowl of all Cotten Bowls . . . besides . . . I sense a return of our excessive celebration "problems" . . .

We lost 2 games that year. One to friggin BYU. We didn't get "cheated" out of anything.

Point taken.

There wasn't a CFBPO at that point, had there been though...

And the BYU officiating was questionable.

Regsrdless, in that era Miami always needed perfection.

I was at the OB for that great victory! Loved every minute of that game. Joe Paterno was besides himself! I was hoarse after the game.

Jesse Armstead’s sack squat-thrust-pump-dance against Cal should be on the list. Can’t find video on YouTube.

Rather funny if you ask me. Don’t see the outrage.

Yeah, I think the players got ****ed about some center pieces of bowls of cotton. Either way, when you get two or three hundred yards of penalties, you are not suppose to still crush a team like Texas with such ease. Oh sure, we were hated for everything long before then, but The Miami rules came from that game. I loved that game. Thill managed to have two of the greatest plays in Cane lore.

It ain’t my fault they couldn’t guard me.

It ain’t my fault my quarterback can throw.

It ain’t my fault they didn’t block the tunnel to keep me from running all up in through there.....
They're lucky we had 240 yards in penalties or it would have been 60-3, or something to that effect
