I know a lot of people got on our safeties this year, but according to Profootball focus Rayshawn has the highest rating of any safety in their bowl games this year.

Watch game film from last year and compare the pass rush techniques, angles and tackling displayed in the first year under this staff. Starting 5 true freshmen and 2 true sophmores against a WVU team that had 5 - 4 year players and 4 - 5 year players on their offense. They averaged 500yds per game and got absolutely destroyed by our D.

I'm not happy with the record - but we went from 27 to 34 ponts per game on O and dropped from 28 points against to 18. That is a huge improvement.

Our secondary will lose some players - but based on the development I saw from Rumph and Banda I'm not worried. If we don't get everyone we want this year we will load up in 2018 - Jobe, Frierson, Blades, Campell, Ivey, Hall and become elite. I know that's something we say every year, but the 18 class is way more loaded at the skill positions.

Rayshawn actually played pretty well for us this season...

Had 76 tackles, 4.5TFL's 2INT's & 7PD's...

I think part of the problem with how us fans tend to view some of our players, is that we're constantly comparing them to the legends of the past...

When you have a Safety legacy of Blades, Reed, Sean Taylor & Antrel Rolle the bar is set so high anything less that All-American looks like failure, when that's not really the case.

Jenk played well, didn't play perfect & definitely could've been better, but he's not as bad as some make him out to be.

Well said. Good point on comparing current players with HOF'ers. No comparison. And the more years pass by, the more legendary those HOF'ers become.

Rolle was a CB here, but you're right, we've had a lot of really good safeties here going back decades (Burgess Owens, Fred Marion....)

He's a **** sight better than some of the players we've run out there in recent years. He also probably had his best game as a Cane on Wednesday.

That said he's still average - he misses too many tackles. We'll see how he goes in the pros.

I think it's a bit too early to really judge the staff on player development. This year was just about putting the players in a better position to be successful, especially on defense. We'll see how the stud freshman take the next step and what the guys we didn't see a lot of turn into. Very interested to see what next year brings for this freshman class.

Jenkins has always been a solid player with good instincts. He just lacked the athleticism and physical talent to be any better than decent. And the missed tackles.
