Pitt was a meaningless preseason game. It is a 3 game season

Canes, striving for perfection is something UM is built on so having that perfect season is something to be disappointed about but nothing to hang our heads over.

The Pitt game was essentially a meaningless preseason game. Pitt was a tune up game for the start of our 3 game season. Don’t sweat it Canes. If we played Pitt 100 times we would win 99 out of 100 times.

Not many teams go undefeated.

2003 - USC 11-1
2003 - LSU 11-1
2006 -Florida - 11-1
2007 - LSU - 11-2
2008 - Florida 11-1
2011 - Alabama 11-1
2012- Alabama 11-1
2015- OSU - 11-1
2016- Alabama 11-1
2017 - Clemson 11-1

So all these teams suffered losses and the fans and the players had to deal with disappointment. But they were smiling and happy at the end.

So we have a 3 game season. Win 3 and you are champions

Only thing I worry about is if Malik will be able to get over the loss in a week. Most of those teams didn't lose their last game of the regular season. If we played one more game before playing Clemson and Malik could get some confidence back an I would not be as worried.

I agree but we are still in a great position. A win vs Pitt would not have changed a thing. We essentially had a 3 game season starting with Clemson. If you are going to have a bad game it is better to have it now. So UM was fortunate their bad game happened this week.

It absolutely wasn't a meaningless loss.

I'm watching the Florida - FSU game. The commentators can't keep Miami's name out of their mouths. It's been everywhere the last 12 hours - the media have been loving it.

Even if we won against Pitt is was still going to be a 3 game season with a winner go home situation

It wasn’t meaningless. Bad, yes, but not meaningless. Malek looked like a pitcher with a tired arm and the rest of the team wasn’t much better. I think they were physically beaten up yesterday. Pitt was moving the pile forward all day. I think they can beat Clemson. But having a second straight road game against an even better opponent is a tall order for this bunch right now, especially with a QB with a serious case of the yips and god knows whatever else that was going on on our sideline. Next week will be really interesting to see what we have in the tank.

With the loss yesterday our fate is now in the hands of the selection committee. Even with a win next week, it is not a slam dunk that they put us in over a 1 loss Alabama team or even a 2 loss OSU* team. You are kidding yourself if you think that game yesterday was entirely meaningless.

This.

Yes, this was a meaningless football game... for Pitt. But, guess what? They won handily anyway.

If Alabama loses this week that’s a huge problem IF we pull it out next week. Assume Wisconsin and Oklahoma win out and then add the SEC champ - Clemson would for sure get in over Alabama but you can no longer say it is guaranteed that we would. That’s what yesterday’s loss means to us.

I think some of you guys are reaching a bit! That loss was big for us. If we won and lost last week to Clemson, we'd still be in the playoffs. Now there is absolutely no margin for error. I'm hoping Rosier especially and the rest of the guys are extremely motivated for the game on Saturday. I think we win if we bring the same intensity we brought against ND and VT.
