Your college GF didn’t know how to SWIM?

So you are desperately trying to pick a fight because you are mad that I didn't make a ban bet with you that you absolutely would have lost.

Maybe someday you will grow up and act like a man. Unlikely. But we can hope.

It’s gonna make me sound old, but these kids don’t know how good they have it. Although to me, sometimes the old Rat was heaven.
Remember when the Ratt opened. It was heaven. Never had to leave campus, could walk/crawl back home, .25 cent beers on Friday night happy hrs., music, chicks, dancing. No or very little hassle from campus or CG police. Perfect place for college idiocy🙌🏽

No.

Perhaps you know about grass. But what you don't know about is the load-bearing capabilities of those canals.

We will not be driving heavy machinery along the edge of the canal. We will not be installing heavy flooring that can support heavy weight room equipment and heavy weight-lifters along the edge of the canal.

I guess what I thought was painfully obvious was not so obvious. So for that, I apologize.

But...no...we will not be extending the Metro along the edge of the canal. We will not be putting huge Greentree bleachers along the edge of the canal. We will not be constructing enclosures for elephants along the edge of the canal. If anything, we might need to strengthen the structural integrity of both sides of the canal, since there is now a lot more construction in that area than ever before.

The newly-expanded weight room will overlook the practice field. THE IPF PRACTICE FIELD. That is all.
Can we revisit this please @TheOriginalCane ?

Why is it possible for the university to construct the Wellness Center and IPF along the canal, but a new weight room along the canal is totally dumb and out of the question?

I've already lost patience with your stupid questions once, I'm not going to do it again.

If you don't know the answer to that, if you've never walked around that area, if you don't understand the difference between the types of buildings, then I can't help you.

It's not a trick question and I'm in that area frequently.

The weight room at the Wellness Center is less than 10 yards from the canal's bank.

Why is it ok to construct a giant wellness center, giant IPF and giant football building along the canal, but constructing a new weight room along the same canal is asinine?

Just trying to understand why you think my idea could never work when it's already proven that it does work.

Good lord, you are so ******* buffoonish. Go back and look at the original pictures, genius.

Sure, if you think we are going to build a 100 yard long weight room that is 10 yards deep, that is up to you.

I know exactly what was done with the Wellness Center, as I was involved in Student Government when all of that went down and I was friends with Norm, as well as one of the architects on the project. I also wrote a couple of articles about the project for the UM newspaper and yearbook.

Go back and re-read my comments, which were completely accurate. You have no idea what you are talking about on the design of the buildings, the setbacks, and/or the weight distribution. I am not arguing that your idiotic weight room idea would need to be 100 yards away from the canal, but am instead saying that it could not be right on top of the canal, without becoming the second longest/thinnest building on campus (besides the Memorial Building of course).

But, sure, let's build a 100x10 building and then line up 85 weight machines side-by-side. Brilliant. All because you think it would be so cool to look out over Greentree, when the original concept has ALWAYS been to have the weight room looking out onto the IPF Field.

You are completely clueless as to how the heavier "multi-story" aspects of both the Wellness Center and the IPF are farther away from the canal than your tiny brain can comprehend.

You argued this:

We will not be driving heavy machinery along the edge of the canal. We will not be installing heavy flooring that can support heavy weight room equipment and heavy weight-lifters along the edge of the canal.

You said nothing about how long the building would be, or any of that. You're doing what you always do, which is inevitably reframing it all in a reassuring way so that you can get to sleep at night.

Well, considering how many student-pedestrian accidents have occurred at that intersection, if they are putting housing there, I do hope they are further improving the walkability of that intersection. It’s been an issue for so many decades.
One of those was a friend on our floor (6th, Pentland), Eric Adams. He was killed his freshman year crossing that road.

I recall on freshman orientation being told by our guide that “over here…that’s where Bernie Kosar threw up!”

Old Rat had a great ambiance to it. It looked like something out of Animal House.

I live a block away from campus and yesterday during my turkey trot, I saw this for the first time. Can any of you turdblossoms tell me where this is?

Some late nights after happy hour, it was Animal House. One night they had a Budweiser rep handing out foam coolers. We managed to to get the majority of them. We then proceeded to go outside on the lawn and have a jostling contest. There was GD foam cooler parts everywhere, but it was drunken fun had by all the knights of the Ratt.

The professionals at RSMAS eventually remove all gators and crocodiles from Lake Osceola. Saw them remove a manatee once too.
When I was there in the early 1990s you could see barracuda in there as well. It’s an interesting mix of life forms in there. The only thing missing are kaiju.

It would be cool if they had see through tunnels that went from one side of the lake to the other for students to see the aquatic creatures - and take short cuts to class.
