Phil Steele’s Top 25 Rankings

I don't know. We'll be improved no doubt, but I still think we have a ways to go. I mean I think we win 10 games, but a naysayer might point out....

Our LBs are way too light in the ***. We're massively undersized there and that might hurt us in the run defense and taking on OL especially late in the season and late in games

Our DEs are talented but undersized somewhat

Our WR are too skinny. Every one of them are about 10 to 15 lbs too light so we might struggle getting off the line and struggle in the red zone and contested catch situations

I love our transfers and I like the guys we have but we're still a skinny team except for the OL, which by comparison is massive.

Also we struggled a lot with things like communication and just understanding assignments and calls last year, and it cost us games. The difference in the FSU game last year was a BS non-call on a safety and about 6 or 7 miscommunications/missed assignments on the OL and on defense.

Finally, we still commit too many dumb penalties.

So basically what I'm saying is this team has potential to be very good but whether they actually are or not depends on how hard they work this offseason. I'm hoping that our team culture is strong enough this year that the team is dialed in and getting after it now hard.
uh our top 4 LBs by all accounts are Mauigoa (230lbs), Bissainthe (222lbs), Alderman (230lbs), and Aguirre (233lbs). And those are what they are listed at. Mauigoa, Alderman, and Aguire could all be playing closer to 240 than 230 right now for all we know. And 240lbs is like the heaviest you really will seen NFL linebackers right now... So really have no clue what you're talking about there about us being way too light in the *** and massively undersized. Even our backups - Bobby Washington is 220lbs, Adarius Hayes is 230lbs. The only light in the *** guys are like Chase Smith and Cam Pruitt.

our DE's are undersized?
WRs too skinny?
You're absolutely trippin. Our DEs consist of two guys that are 270 flirting with 280. And we have two more pure ends who are 250-260ish. That isn't small. Is your point that we aren't long? Sure, but all those guys are proven successful. Again are you exclusively talking about our incoming freshman EDGEs like Pickett, LIghtfoot, and Rudolph? Aka guys that aren't in the 2 deep? Our WRs are too skinny? George and Ray Ray, maybe. The rest, no. And George just played an entire season and was 3rd in yards in the ACC (and had highest ypc of guys that finished in top 8 in yards), 4th in TDs. Restrepo definitely isn't skinny. And Sam Brown is just built well at 6'2" 200. Horton is "skinnier" than him, but not like he's small at 6'4" 205lbs... And I have zero doubt Jojo is going to be built pretty well, and not someone you'd describe as skinny.

.... Size will have nothing to do with whether we are great or not this season. The funny part is the one position I could even get the criticism regarding size is probably DT, yet you didn't even mention that lol.

Fairly obvious Phil is a Miami guy based on how much higher he rates the Canes every year than other prognosticators.

Let's hope the Canes prove him right this year for once.

Miami should enter the season unranked until they prove they should be ranked.

I refuse to fall for this yet again. Fool me once, fool me twice ...

For years my take has been “If Miami can just get some decent coaching they can win 9 or 10 games” then of course they didn’t get decent coaching and won 7 games. This year, my mantra is “Miami is talented enough to win 10 games with bad coaching”. Like, it would take an epic coaching disaster to ***** this one up.

If you have a Top 10 Quarterback, a Top 10 Running Back, a Top 10 WR room, an NFL TE, a Top 10 OL, and a Front 7 that has 70 combined quarterback sacks (pause), specifically 47+ just from your edge group, a Top 3 corner in your conference, a starting safety from a national championship runner up team, and a bevy of first and 2nd year blue-chippers, including TEN kids ranked in the Top 100 the last 2 classes, you should be in the Top 10 as a team.

Unless your group of coaches suck absolute horse ****.

What kind of a horse are we talking about here. A Clydesdale? Or a Pony?

I am trying to think back over the last 20 years when there was a year, I DID NOT pick us to win 10 games. Maybe one or two years. I do it to myself. I am way past delusional at this point. I have accepted it. Yes, again, I am saying 10 wins, however, I may go sit in a fire ant pile if we don't beat Florida and Duke with honey on my ba**s.

Mario will hopefully learn from his coaching mistakes the past 8 years. The talent he has assembled should hold on to the ball when he runs out the clock and hands the ball off with no time outs. I don't take a knee when playing NCAA 2014 so why should he.

Just please beat Florida and don't lose to Manny Arteaga.
