Can we get an update on Darrian Felix? Haven't heard anything on him in a while. Are we still in the drivers seat?

Also, anything new on OL? I know, kinda broad question but we need to get some hog mollies up front to clear some holes.

In an interview on another site Felix said other schools have caught up, but Miami still #1 :

Ft. Myers High School RB Darrian Felix had the Canes as his clear favorite in interviews last month.

But now he says "some other schools have caught up."

Felix still says UM holds the No. 1 position for him, and he says the Canes are "a little ahead" of Oregon, Auburn and Tennessee.

"As offers are coming in I'm starting to look at them more," Felix said. "I wouldn't even say those four schools are a top four, I'd just say those four are standing out."

He landed 22 scholarship offers this spring - he previously had just five offers.

"Coaches just saw my versatility and they see my size, too," Felix said. "I'm still 5-11, weigh 193 pounds - that's up 23 pounds from last season. I've just been working out, eating."

Felix says he's in regular contact with Cane coaches Mark Richt, Thomas Brown and Craig Kuligowski.

"They said they're coming to my spring game May 27," Felix said. "They're very calm coaches, not stressed, just are talking regular to me daily. They're just great coaches." Felix adds "Miami, that's still my school, you know? But it's just there are other options I'm taking a look at. They're still at the top of my list, though."

Of when he might make a final decision, Felix said, "I don't know. Just if my heart goes with it I'll go with it. I'll take official visits first."

Felix says he plans to visit Miami again "coming up," but that he's "not sure when."

I know nothing about it, but that would surprise me. Seems like it would be hard to pull a kid from, literally, across the country, to a program with the coaching staff on pretty shaky ground. Additionally, Oregon historically doesn't recruit Florida much, or at least successfully. On the flip side, Oregon must recruit nationally to be successful, so maybe they've stepped up the Florida efforts... or he has some tie I don't know about (and I know nothing about him, personally).

We hear kids talk about Oregon all the time.. but when the time comes to put pen to paper it rarely happens. Just something about the offense they run, the nike sponsorship, etc etc.

Exactly. Florida guys are always yapping about Oregon, but when push comes to shove, they never go. That's practically like moving to Japan for a young South Florida kid.

The only one I remember recently who decided to "jump out the window" and go to Oregon from SoFla was Tacoi Sumler but I dont think he even last a year before he transferred.

I think alot of those kids must go to the Opening and fall in love with all that Nike sponsored stuff that Oregon has with Phil Knight bank rolling the whole thing and the experience just sticks with them knowing **** well they not going way out there.

The five months of rain there should have any recruit looking for a sunshine program like the "Canes"

It rains a lot in Portland. Eugene is in a valley way further south and isn't all that rainy. Big culture change though going from Miami to Oregon. I went the opposite direction and it took me four years to get used to the fact that people in S. Florida weren't going out of their way to be a-holes, that's just how people there act naturally. Not so bad once you get used to it.

No not based on that interview. He had stated earlier this year that he wanted an Oregon offer, ever since he got it he's been showing them a lot of love. But I agree with everyone else, he might talk them up now but when it comes down to it, that's a far move and a big change, especially compared to going to school just an hour drive away from his hometown.

I guess I still don't get it? You seem to be saying because he likes Oregon and the fact that they offered, that must mean Oregon leads, even though he has never stopped saying Miami leads. If that is the extent that the is "talking them up now," saying they are maybe in second place, I wouldn't be too worried about it.
