Thomas vision and judgement on the kickoff returns were brutal. Teams were kicking his way on purpose. I can't believe we never made a change during the season. Our ST's need a serious upgrade

butch used that to get a kids a scholarschip when he was reduced. they would have them come on a track scholly and do both sports

I think the first and only was a linemen from Texas who threw shot. Butch definitely manipulated the rules and used that to work around the probation. He definitely invented the gray shirt concept. As I recall, the NCAA changed the rules because of Butch in regards to bringing in track kids on scholarship to also "wink-wink" play football. Might be wrong there. BTW, Santana Moss came in via track but he converted to football immediately.

Even then, if you came on track and played fb you converted to football. Otherwise, why would butch convert moss to fb if the rules didn’t dictate it?

Was Thomas hurt (tweaked maybe?) at all this year? He did fine and I'm a big fan of him - I think he's going to kill it when we get better QB play. I was shocked, though, at him consistently being unable to get the edge on KO returns.

I don't know what was going on KO returns. He looked full speed at receiver.

My guess is that Lingard and Davis take on KO role next year. Dallas might return punts.
He's not a multiple shift and go guy IMO. He's a 1 cut and burn MF. Maybe 2 cuts. He's elite, just not elite with vision full of 21 players ahead of him.

He's not a good kick returner (no vision) and our blocking sucks?

Can't do that anymore. As soon as a student athlete goes over to football, he counts a football scholly.

Not exactly. If he was recruited or initially contacted by the football staff, he counts as a football scholarship. If recruited by the track coach, he's counted as a track scholarship even if he were to walk-on the football team. The moment he appears in a game, his scholarship transfers over to football and has to fit under the 85 limit.
