Pete, can you confirm Schiano was number two?

In an interview, Pete said at the time of Richts hire it looked like Schiano was leading Butch for 2nd.

This. I like the Richt hire but I would've been pumped with Butch and I could've lived with Mullen. Schiano wasn't in the same category as Wario for me but I didn't want none the less.
 
He confirmed it last night on 560 with Donno.. Donno was trashing Schiano hard.. I don't understand why people are thanking Blake and our admin when we almost got MRSA. I'm extremely happy with Richt though.
 
Who cares. I don't care who was number 2 unless it was someone better than richt which it wasn't

I think hating on Blake for worrying about what would have happened is pretty ridiculous. The difference here is he went boss and got the #1 guy that other than a few diehard Butch guys is basically being hailed as the best hire this year.

It's ok to see sunshine sometimes guys. Stop looking for clouds. They've gone to Jersey.

Come on, dude. You can't ignore the fact that if UGA hadn't miraculously (a little religious humor there) let Richt go at that exact time, we would have Greg Schiano as our HC after a big national search and Butch Davis as our fallback option should other "better" candidates turn us down. On what planet... no, in what universe is Greg Schoano a better option than Butch Davis? Personally, I think the Schiano was number 2 info was purposely put out there to try and quell any kind of public backlash. A lot of people wanted Butch in a bad way, and it's a lot easier for them to accept Richt knowing Schiano was next man up rather than Butch.

This. It's disconcerting since Blake could potentially be in charge of the next search. Richt won't be here forever.

It also shows that they would have done anything to avoid hiring Butch. Given that Butch was the most likely to RESTORE Miami's greatness, it was that greatness they wanted to avoid. They were never comfortable with it going back to Foote. Butch never had a chance and it wasn't because he left ro the ncaa thing. If was what he might do. Mark will win a lot more than Al and is not threat to restore our greatness. He is enough to quiet the fans and restart some money flow. Plus he is almost impossible to hate so banners not likely.

Well...he didn't go get him...Richt got fired and suddenly became available.
I would say GA firing Richt save Blake from a search that would have apparently ended with Shiano as the choice.
