Freshman quarterback N'Kosi Perry connected on a touchdown pass of over 40 yards to senior tight end Chris Herndon.
Herndon, who is stepping into a lead role this season after catching 28 passes as the No. 2 tight end last season, hauled in the pass from Perry on a seam route, which has been a favorite in the Hurricanes' offense.
Perry had a solid day overall flashing his ability with his arm and legs as he is in a competition with junior Malik Rosier and sophomore Evan Shirreffs to be the starting quarterback.
"(N'Kosi) knew he was going to come in here with a chance to start and he took that in his mind and took that preparation well," senior wide receiver Braxton Berrios said after practice. "It's a really close race right now."
The team has been given the day off on Thursday and will return to practice on Friday morning before Saturday’s scrimmage at Hard Rock Stadium.
