So this past weekend I spent Saturday and Sunday driving southbound on I95. Starting in North Carolina we saw hundreds of UHaul and Penske trucks driving north on the interstate. We noted as far South as Daytona Beach exit to I4.
Is there a race to leave the state?
I remember witnessing the opposite during the COVID era.
Thoughts?

People are leaving California at record numbers and they’re coming to Florida , Texas and NC. We’re too crowded at this point so I hope it’s true.

Someone suggested to me that this may be people transporting stuff to college for their kids. But this was Labor Day weekend, a little late?
Plus, these were big transport trucks, 10 ft and more. I don't think college kids need that much furniture, IMO.

In general, some people are indeed moving out because of $, but a lot of folks are still moving here from high tax states. I literally checked last week with a T&E lawyer and an upscale real estate broker and things have picked up again due to Mandami.

It makes sense from a deep blue state like NY to head south. A cousin of mine just bought a house in Viera two years ago with husband and her not even stepping foot inside. Another relative also from NY deciding between Fla and NC. Working and owning a home in the northeast, you make enough from retirement and sale of home that one can buy a decent place down south. I hate to see Fl overrun with Yanks, but at least my relatives vote for the good guys, won't be bringing the commie politics with them.

I was going to put that too. I was in Nashville area for work 20 years ago and I loved it. To the point I almost moved there. Everyone now says stay away , it’s splitting from the seams

The problem there is going to be the same as we've had here. The roads will be too congested for too long before they do something about it and they'll let developers put up multifamily housing or build 2500+ sq ft houses on .17 acre without having the roads to handle it.

Drug cartels moving product north for the Fall season.

Insurance costs. Property prices. Congestion. All of this stuff has gone up since COVID and people want another choice. Florida used to be the only choice in the COVID era, but it's over, Johnny.

They must be abandoning their homes because they're sure not selling them.
They probably didn’t buy.
Halfbacks who came down during Covid, leased hoping the market would drop, now heading halfway back to TN, NC, GA for cheaper homes.

True. I haven't heard anything about rental inventory.
