I think that's part of the reason why you don't because you were shooting for the first down that was near fg range anyway. If you call the timeout and its an incomplete pass penn state gets it back with around 30 sec

I’d much rather take a shot at third and 7 with 30 seconds left at midfield than than letting the clock run down to 14 and try to get a 20 yards on one play for a fg. That’s playing for the win. Punting and pinning them back inside the 10 was the other option if you failed. It wasn’t that risky to call timeout and having more time to work with. Then again it all worked out because the idiot threw and int lol
