Patrick Joyner decides to sign during early period

Recent Canes LB commit Patrick Joyner said last week he was going to wait until the February signing period to make it official with Miami, but now he says that he will in fact sign during the early period on December 20th.

The reasoning for his decision? “Just want to lock it in and get it over with,” he said.

Joyner is not an EE, but he joins South Dade teammate D.J. Ivey in signing early. Joyner will OV to Miami this weekend.

Understand he's not enrolling early Pete...But what is the official list of EE? Seems to be conflicting reports on a couple guys.

They'd let Nesta participate in the event on signing day even if he signed early. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't make any sense for any guy who is committed to not sign early.

I have the same thoughts on this matter. As another poster said, if they aren't signing early they must still be looking. Again, makes absolutely no sense to me why you would be committed to a school but wait til the very last minute to sign. The only reason I could think of would be waiting to see if anyone moves around or to get a last minute offer they are holding out for. Imo, if you are hoping for an offer that you don't have yet you shouldnt be committed anywhere.


Then again, I'm not 17 so who knows?

I'm cautiously optimistic on Nesta given how he's setting his OV up with Campbell, Chat, and Surtain. But your premise still stands. He could still go on that visit, even after signing in December. If you're truly committed, you should be signing so the staff doesn't have to waste time and resources to continue to recruit you.

Asking cause I don't know the rules on this. Could some of these guys have held off on their official visits during the season to focus on their teams and they want to take them early 2018? Maybe you can't take your visits if you have signed? Other than that, I can think of no other reason to not sign early if you are committed. Like you said, Nesta can still take part in the signing day ceremony at his school despite signing early

Most should sign early if committed. I think there will always be a few kids that are solid but want to wait for X, Y, Z reasons. In this case if everyone signs early but someone like Nesta whom has stated his intention to sign at the Heritage ceremony, then that is outstanding.
