Patricia Whitely suspended AQM

BREAKING: MESSAGE BOARD HEROES EMAIL A UNIVERSITY OFFICIAL OF A SCHOOL THEY NEVER ATTENDED ONLY TO HAVE AN INTERN DELETE SAID EMAILS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE READS THEM

Yeah, I never attended the U so I can't send an email. I've been a fan of U football since before this woman even dreamed of working at the U, perhaps before she was even born.

ur opinion means very little to them unless your a big time donor. they dont care about some unknown that has no affiliation to the school in any way.

Although I once lectured Tad Foote about the importance of football just before the '88 OB game, the one where we won the '87 NC. I was a little rough on him, pointing my finger and everything. I wish I had been drunk, then I'd have an excuse. I kind of wish I hadn't done it. It was probably something he'd heard a million times before.

Maybe it was displaced anger because he was married to J. William Fulbright's daughter, and I always disliked J. William Fulbright. If you know what I mean.

Lol at anyone that touts their alma mater's ranking. If it's not Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc then that paper you paid tens of thousands of dollars for isn't worth ****. It's what you make of it. So don't give me the school is ranked 47th BS. That doesn't mean **** except to a bunch of academics that want to sit on their high horse and think they are more important than what they really are. This goes for all universities that are not among the elite

cool bro. so your degree isn't worth **** either

It might mean something. For example, my law school would somehow rank undergraduate schools in the admissions process and did pay attention to perceived differences in quality and difficulty. I'd rather be where Miami is now than say, around 150th. When I was finishing law school, I contacted a federal judge who had an unexpected opening for a clerk. One of the first things he asked me on the phone, before he even saw my resume, was where I went to undergraduate school. Frankly, I'd rather be able to say Harvard than Miami or UF, although I've seen very successful people from all schools.

When STUDENTS start bringing in the same amount of money the football program does then maybe we can say they are on par with each other.

I love pointing out stupidity, and I greatly appreciate another opportunity.

Miami's 17,000 students bring in about $730 million in tuition alone. Miami's athletic department breaks even, at best.

Again, thank you for the opportunity, even though I know you won't learn a **** thing from it.

Please do a little bit of work before trying to be the smartest guy on the board.

We can agree that Miami's athletic department breaks even (at best) after charging every scholarship at full tuition, room, and board and adding in coaches, travel and all the other expenses required to field athletic teams.

To compare things, you'd need to take the student tuition, less all teacher salaries, charge the appropriate amount of room and board for every scholarship issued. Then you'd have to deduct the cost of running the campus buildings and managing the land.

Let's take a look at Miami's financials. Tuition and fees only brought in $463 million. Operating activities of the university posted a whopping $6 million dollar profit in 2013 and lost $30 million in 2012. In 2013, the growth in net assets was all generated by gifts and investment returns on the endowment.

Not much difference - neither is overly profitable on operations alone.

A bunch of posts on this thread are just pathetic. AQM breaks his roommate's nose... AQM says it was self-defense... witnesses interviewed say something else (read: not self-defense).

I'm guessing many of you don't receive the alumni magazine because you didn't attend UM, so let me help you. Pat Whitely is one of the most beloved administrators in the history of the U. She is honest and fair (I speak from personal experience), and yes she puts the U's students above the U's football team... as it should be.

Hopefully AQM learns from this and comes back. Glad he hasn't lost any eligibility. I'm sure the coaching staff is upset... jobs can hinge on wins and losses. But that doesn't mean anyone in Student Affairs mishandled the situation.

So what would you say about other universities who are suspending there players 1-2 games for getting charged with felonies breaking beer bottles over peoples heads or getting in bar fights. But AQM gets into a fight with one person no charges and he gets suspended the whole semester? That makes sense to you? You must be part of the rowing squad. Or maybe the golf team?

The whole point of my "calm down" post was that some folks on this board were saying some pretty ugly things about PW. They woman is fair and she is just doing her job. What makes sense to me is to give her the benefit of the doubt. Believe me, she cheers on our football team just as much as anyone else. But she isn't going to give any kid a free allotment of broken noses before the rules of the school apply simply because he plays football.

We criticize UF and other schools when they look the other way. Let's not be hypocrites.

If she treats everybody the same. Why hasn't any punishment been handed down to the other students involved? Didn't he get to graduate without any repercussions? How in he'll is that fair at all?

the case was still under investigation then is my guess and when he graduates and he may be the victim (depending on who you ask), theres not much the school can do. they can withhold his degree but again we dont know the real story. all we know is there was a fight and some witnesses gave statements that conflicted w AQMs story of self defense.

Tim has me mad as ****...This dude just said students should be put over athletes..WHat kind of **** is that. Tim lost alll internet credibility with that dumb *** statement

Ok the case is still under investigation so what? While the case was under investigation golden held aqm out of games. Why couldn't they hold his diploma from him in till this was figured out?

No it doesn't. What I did in my career matters much more hence why I can earn a quality salary. My degree means nothing and neither do most peoples. The smart ones know it

golden held AQM out on the belief that he'd be suspended and he'd lose a year of eligibility. golden could have played him in the first two games if he wanted to but he would have lost a year of eligibility.

Which one "brings in more", champ? You have to read a conversation in context.

Context? You said "Miami's athletic department breaks-even, at best." Breaks-even implies a measure of profitability. No argument that tuition and fees bring in about 4x the revenue of our sorry athletic department. Maybe "breaks-even" was just a poor choice of words when trying to make your point about bringing in more.

Worst run university in the country.

Yeah, you can tell by the $3 billion campaign, the unprecedented number of applications, and a move into a rock-solid top 50 position. Where did we get these people.

And where has it gotten us? Tied with Jorts U!

we were always behind UF until the past couple of years.

If tied with a school like UF is all we get out of this Momentum program, then we sure have low expectations! And we certainly didn't get our money's worth.

Rock solid top 50 position?????? Dude there are a half dozen elite football schools ranked right around us. Ohio State is the same **** ranking. This myth that we are anything more than a solid school is preposterous. This school isn't Cal-Tech. It's basically Clemson, but recently inflated SAT acceptance rates gave us a bump. Stop acting like we are something we aren't. It's pathetic. Are you really that insecure about your school that you wish it was something else? Why did you go to UM if you wanted to go to Emory? Oh that's right, you are the kind of nerd who isn't all that bright, just thinks he is. FOH clown.

Don't lump me into your glitter fest pal. I dont criticize ****. I want my school to win at all costs. I don't give a **** if UM is ranked 47th or 80th in academics, big ****ing deal. Not once on an interview for grad school or interviews has someone said, "Oh ****, you went to UM they are ranked 47th". Usually the questions involve around how the football team is doing. Your new attitude is killing my school, and I wish you and the rest of the merit badge squad would **** off.

I went to UM because I grew up rooting for them in FOOTBALL. ****es like you have ruined my childhood memories.

IF I COULD REP THIS EVERY DAY TILL I DIE, I'D DIE A HAPPY MAN. THIS SHOULD BE A FORUM STICKY RIGHT HERE!!!

This. Lol at rock solid top 50 school. Universities are a dime a dozen in this country. Unless it's a top notch school no one cares what rank your school is. You walk into an interview and tell them you have a degree from a solid top 50 program then proceed to tell them it's from Miami or Ohio State or Clemson or any other average university and you will get laughed out of that interview.

Are you idiots incapable of reading a post in context? The post was in response to "Worst run university in the country". When you can read two consecutive posts and understand that one is related to the other, then you can respond to me.

And why are you even concerned about such matters? Your precious football team is the only thing you're worried about. Stick to your cutting edge "Goldn suxk" posts.
