Patke is the real off-season winner

Punter and PK made him look good
Then he did his job. Patke is striker and specials. Romeo did well and transition to Frierson has been good and Smith as reserve. Kicking unit was good. Patke is low on list of issues, #1 should have been getting a quality DC to bring some new ideas, upgrade DB coach, before worry about striker coach.

Seems some people think he is responsible for jennings/McCloud, atleast by title that is not his group.

Patke seems like a glorified graduate assistant, off-field personnel guy. I don't know what he brings to the table, for real.

Borregales, Hedley, and Gil Frierson all had great seasons, so I guess he keeps he sticks around...idk. Cool. Seems like a waste of a valuable coaching spot, especially considering he can't recruit.

There is no outside LBs in this defense. And patke wasn’t getting fired after having 2 all Americans and kicker win the groza
I dont understand why they dont get this...dont even know what justification it would be?. That ninja doesnt catch punts, the same guys dropping punts were dropping routine catches and ints.

Just say you dont like him and GO...

Patke even said in an interview that he didn’t get in the way of Hedley or Borregales, mentioned those guys were “pros” and knew what to do. There is nothing Patke did coaching wise that made our kicking and punting game elite last year. That was all on those two players. The worrisome aspect of ST play was the amount of muffed punts, lack of explosive plays in the kickoff return game, and constantly being called for holding or blocks in the back on returns. To me, those areas can improve with coaching.

The “Striker” is and OLB and he coaches strikers. That’s it

I agree that having the 2 specialists and their recognition covered all of the other deficiencies in STs
I'll go out on a limb and say striker play was better than in years past. Obviously he wasn't responsible for recruiting any of those guys but with having Frierson, K. Smith and C. Smith at the position there's a ton of experience and upside going into next year.

I'll give him some credit for Romeo, though his play leveled off from his junior to senior year. He deservedly got more snaps after a very solid junior season, then didn't match the production as a senior. Some of that may be scheme and the transition to Baker calling defense, but Romeo didn't improve his senior year the way many expected. Gil, I thought, looked very good in the second half of the season. And there is a lot to be excited about with Keontra. Let's see if they continue to improve or stagnate.

As far as giving him credit for the kicking/punting, you know that is BS. Patke may be the ST coach, but he does not coach kicking/punting. Dude was a LB in college and knows less about kicking/punting than the kickers/punters on his roster. And that's pretty normal. Only in rare cases does it work differently with specialists and the ST coach. ****, Borregales was a Groza finalist before he ever got here. He shouldn't get the credit for Hedley/Borregales's development this season. You or I could have been the ST coach and they were going to do what they did.

If you think our problems on ST were limited to Pope/Harley/Hall/Restrepo/Frierson muffed punts that isn't it.... As ST coach, Patke's coverage and return units were below average last season. And that's with the best kicker in college football and one of the 3 best punters in college football last season. In all of 2020, only 17 Kickoffs were returned against UM, mainly because our stud K had 51 touchbacks. We still managed to let one go for a TD and come in ranked 101 in average return yards allowed on kickoffs. Hopefully Andres already has a leg like his older brother. Even discounting the drops, poor kick coverage and poor kick returns are all on the ST coach.

Isn't Patke still considered a Co DC?

Gotta laugh so I don't cry...

Blake James and daddy's little HC in training, and his whole defensive staff should have been tarred and feathered after that MFing UNC game...

RIP The U...

This, among 1700 other reasons, is why this fanbase sucks so much. OP is not wrong, I’m not disagreeing. But THESE are the masses.

“Isn’t he still considered Co-DC??”

NO!! He is not. And he never was. Then a long winded menstruation fest where he ******* about something that isn’t even factual.

Patke should be gone just based off not finding one decent returner this year. Every game this year a punt was fumbled. Hall, Harley, Pope, Restrepo. I was calling for Knighton back there before the season but he had a couple fumbles this year so idk if I would have trusted him back there. I think between Corn, Dallas, Berrios, Thomas, and Osborn there was 1 muffed punt.

our special teams were horrible. Every decent return we
Got this year was taken away for a block in the back.

Thank you for bringing some sanity to this clueless Troll board

If I am not mistaken last year we had Baker, Banda and Patke as Co DCs...

They kept their titles after daddy's little HC in training took the Temple job and Blake and Richt panicked and promoted Banda and Patke to Co DCs and gave them a pay raise...

Then when Mandy came back, he brought in Baker to be his DC, and didn't change the title or pay raise Richt gave those two unqualified glorified grad assistants...

We are literally wasting years of our lives trying to see if a guy that never played football at this level, has been fired 4 games into a season for his incompetence and wouldn't have this job without his daddy can figure out how to get through a season without having multiple program devastating embarrassing losses that have the whole college football world laughing at us...

2019:
FIU
Duke getting a 2 game streak on us after he had the team run stadiums with the previous years loss on the jumbotron...
GT in their first year moving away from the triple option with an entire roster recruited for that scheme
UiF.... We don't lose to those fvcks!
LaTech setting toilet bowl records for being shut out...

2020:
Clem$on...
UNC...
O$U especially that 1st quarter...

I didn't read any of that because, yes, you're mistaken. Patke was given a Co-DC title, with Banda, for about 2 weeks at the end of 2018, before Richt retired. When Manny became the Head Coach and brought in Baker, he and Banda were the Co-DC's. Patke's reign lasted about 45 minutes. I would suggest Xanax, you seem incredibly high-strung.
