Blake Baker being permitted to continue collecting checks for doing nothing but foul up LB recruiting and failing to properly evaluate and develop the LBs is deservedly getting the majority of the attention around here. Mandy's egotistical adherence to running his scheme his way, and keeping his boy Baker employed is also a big attention grabber.
But listening to @DMoney's very optimistic podcast today it struck me that Patke is the one corch on that side of the ball that wasn't mentioned once. Not for his struggling ST unit that can't field punts, not for his pedestrian recruiting efforts, and not for his part in corching our outside linebackers this season. The noise around everyone else seems to have allowed this clown to fly under the radar. Not today.
Since way too many people here will rush to defend Patke because of our awesome Punter, Kicker, and Long Snapper (I'll hit that up soon, too), let's focus on some of Patke's ST rankings this season:
Our ST also allowed a kickoff to be returned for a TD against NC State (we barely won that game). We also allowed one blocked FG this season (against UVA, which nearly cost us). To his credit, we did block 3 kicks this season, but they were ultimately pretty meaningless blocks. We did not have a punt blocked this season, but we also didn't block any punts this season.
Some people want to claim Patke (a college linebacker at Stephen F. Austin State) is somehow responsible for Borregales winning the Groza award and Hedley being a finalist for the Ray Guy award. That is utter horse ****. I assure you Patke is not out there teaching the finer points of kicking and punting to these men. Hedley refined his craft with Pro Kick Australia, while I believe OKC is responsible for Borregales (I know his brother is coached up by Oscar Castaneda).
I'm not even going to address his obvious and self-evident shortcomings as a LB coach and recruiter. That's pretty well documented elsewhere. The point is, this is another corch stealing UM checks. Fvck Patke.

- UM was ranked No. 121 out of No.127 in average punt return length;
- UM was ranked No. 69 of 127 in punt return defense (would have been worse but for our stud punter);
- UM was ranked No. 101 of 127 in kick return defense;
- UM was ranked No. 60 of 127 in average kick return length.
