Pate State: Josh Pate on campus with Mario

Just a reminder:

Va Tech will be the 6th game in a row. The prior games will be Lville at home, Stanford at home, AT SMU, Syracuse at home, NC State at home
Not exactly a group of cupcakes, despite what most of this board thinks.

People getting caught up in the teams themselves when we’ve most been our Achilles heel either overlooking or not preparing correctly in losses or close games.

VT… only Old Dominion, UVA and BC allowed them to put up more points than us.

Syracuse… in the regular season only Holy Cross allowed them to score more than us. We allowed them to score the same amount as UNLV did.

Cal… only Oregon State and WF allowed more points than us.

Louisville… only Austin Peay and Jax St gave up more points than us.

And this isn’t a new issue… it’s been this way for awhile, we’re everybody’s Super Bowl. But there are some other programs who face the same thing with lesser teams but they handle business more often than not. We have to get over the hump of losing 2 games a year to teams beneath us.

But that’s the thing… when has roster comparison matter much when you look at a good amount of our losses? Even with wins… rosters side by side we had no business giving up 40+ points or it even being close but here we are… time and time again.
Fair but that Virginia Tech roster this year is not very good at all, and they lost a lot of production to the draft and the transfer portal. It’s just something to keep in mind.

Agree. I don’t think they are a super talented team, but they do return some key players.

Also, I think we win but I don’t think we will blow them out. With the exception of 2005, 2014, and 2018 games, our games in Blacksburg are usually a loss. We have won a couple more up there in the last 20+ years, but they were one score, nail bighters. The 2005 game was the only time when the teams were evenly matched talent wise and we smoked them.
The thing is, though, the couple of key players they returned, really aren’t that good. Just something to keep in mind, when people say they got some key players coming back, that’s not always a good thing if they’re not that good. And the players Virginia Tech has on that roster this year, just don’t look that good and I think their coach is done after this season.

Yep, pretty much Drones and then a couple linebackers that are better than any of ours. Other than that, they aren’t good. I don’t think they are good/talented team. I believe we are far more talented. I just don’t think we will waltz into Blacksburg and thump them. History has told me we find a way to lose these games or barely win a close one that in doing so takes another year off my life.

I’m not sure about their linebackers, but honestly, I don’t think drones is very good. He looked average last year against our terrible secondary. I think he’s a jag. I know they lost their complete secondary, and that was the strength of the team last year.

The Notre Dame game is going to tell us a LOT on both sides of the ball. We will be tested. If we pass the test in a really good way and come out with the dub, the sky is the limit.

Provided we don't sh*t the bed against GTech and Syracuse.

At home. Which we're liable to do. Because Miami. Where we can't have nice things.
Lucky day for you because we don't play GT!

Sometimes the ACC is goofy and have some good teams like a Syracuse that are overlooked. If an SEC team did that last year it was cause the SEC is good. But its the ACC so it doesn't get the same propaganda
SoFL HS teams can beat GT and Syracuse.

Our Miami Hurricanes can't.

It's not embarrassing, it's humiliating.

It's MTSU level garbage.

Drones isn’t very good, I agree. He is, however, a key returning player for them. He knows their offense and runs it just good enough to keep them in games or win games against mid competition. He’s the type of qb that has bothered us for years. Not the best arm, but is smart and physical. Unless the qb is a complete bum, we tend to struggle. Doesn’t mean we lose every game to these mid qb’s, but we sure don’t make winning them look easy. Maybe this year will be different. Maybe we start to dominate our fellow ACC opponents that are clearly average or below average teams.

And if history is an indicator, our Canes will find a way

to **** it up with both.

Exactly. I love this time of the year…

“Who does ____ have? They lost everyone and return no one”

“They lost all of their best players!”

Like we haven’t been consistently losing to less talented teams with nobodies for the past 20 years. We have enough on our plate to worry about within our own house. Let’s cut all of the mighty macho ****, we haven’t earned that.

He knows we are run correct, I disagree and sometimes am upset at recruiting but I know we have a good CEO HC. And that wins you games in college, talent wins games period. But I will never slurp pause, I will disagree with takes and not sunshine pump anyone he grabs (not one of those types of fans)

But Pate knows we have a good football coach and he says it all the time. Is it going to be enough to get to tier 1? We will see. I know we won’t hire anything better though afterward. So I hope he recruits relentlessly like he always does, I will never doubt the effort from Mario. Although I will complain lol
When Pates viewers were always like "Ryan Day won't ever win a Natty," he always replied "Ryan Day could, it just hasn't happened yet." And then look

Why can't we steamroll these ACC *******!? All the top teams do that to their conference opponents.

Except for the fact they don’t.

Taint was life and death to beat Nebraska at home.

Penn State narrowly beat Minnesota and Purdue, and took over overtime to beat USC.

GT had about 6 chances inside the 10 yard line to beat UGA.

Texas was life and death to beat Vanderbilt and Arkansas.

Don’t even have to mention what happened to Notre Dame early season.

Guess I'm thinking of Sabans Alabama teams. I just remember them winning with easy almost always.
