Pate State: Josh Pate on campus with Mario

Our record in November the last few years does not bode well for us.

I’m not too worried about NC State, but I do think they will be better than last year. VT absolutely concerns me. They have a pretty good group returning. They always give us fits in Blacksburg. They will also be a “revenge” game for them after how last years game ended. Pitt will also be up to play us as they usually are.

I’m not saying we are going to lose to VT or Pitt, but I don’t think we are going to go in there and steamroll either of them.

I might change my mind as the season progresses. If either of those teams implode during the season, I might feel a little more confident about an easy win. Until then, I’m not overlooking any of our P4 conference rivals.
I think you need to re-look at Virginia Tech roster because it sucks and they’ve lost a ton off of it. Granted, the game is in Blacksburg, but this is a team lacking a lot of talent.

But that’s the thing… when has roster comparison matter much when you look at a good amount of our losses? Even with wins… rosters side by side we had no business giving up 40+ points or it even being close but here we are… time and time again.

Agree. I don’t think they are a super talented team, but they do return some key players.

Also, I think we win but I don’t think we will blow them out. With the exception of 2005, 2014, and 2018 games, our games in Blacksburg are usually a loss. We have won a couple more up there in the last 20+ years, but they were one score, nail bighters. The 2005 game was the only time when the teams were evenly matched talent wise and we smoked them.

Sometimes the ACC is goofy and have some good teams like a Syracuse that are overlooked. If an SEC team did that last year it was cause the SEC is good. But its the ACC so it doesn't get the same propaganda

Yes, this is true.

There was this SEC team that won their last 4 games in 2024, they are supposed to be good. I wish we could have beaten that good SEC team instead of losing to an overrated Syracuse team...

So you think even with losing some of their top players to the portal ncst will be better? And what good group does vt have returning? They had to replace a lot on both sides. They brought in 29 transfers and their class was still 48th. Not even 1 4 star transfer. I don’t see why drones stayed there because they are going to be bad

TrumpyCane disagrees

Brent Pry is also a horrific gameday coach

Correct, I think NC State will be better this coming season than they were last year. That doesn’t mean I think they will be good. They were God awful last year. They will just be a little better.

For the 3rd time, I don’t think VT is a talented team. They just have some key players (not necessarily great players, but good for their system), Drones being one of them. Their untalented team took us down to the wire last year. Why should I expect us to blow them out at their place when recent history has shown we struggle in these type of games.

Disagree….we equally handle them pretty well in Blacksburg for the most part. Its at home thy have us fits and won’t go away.

Their team wasn’t untalented last year. They had a nfl wr and rb. Their top 2 o-linemen transferred to auburn and lsu. They had one of the best pass rushers in cfb he was drafted. Their DT is with the ravens. They had a cb drafted and their best cb transferred to lsu. Their best safety transferred to ND. Other starting safety transferred to missouri

We have certainly had more success in Blacksburg more recently than we did from say 1995 thru 2010. I wouldn’t say we have handled them well in Blacksburg. Our only 3 times we whipped them were 2005, 2014, and 2018. So one time was 20 years ago, 11 years ago, and 5 years ago.

VT will play us tough in Blacksburg no matter who suits up for them. If Beck has the hot hand and we’re running the table, they’ll be amped up for that game.

One other thing; I don’t think the national media has completely factored in Beck yet. He ain’t Ward, but he could be a game-changer in his own right.

They had a few good players they lost to the NFL and transfers. We also lost several players to the NFL and a couple to the portal. We have some key players returning and also landed a good transfer class. We should be much better than VT. However, they also return some key players. Might just be a handful for them, but those few guys are critical for their success. I believe those guys will field them a competitive team.

We are on the same page that Miami is clearly the better or more “talented” team. We just disagree about the outcome of the game when we play them. I think it’s going to be a close, hard-fought game. You feel we are going to destroy them with ease. It’s all good. I’d rather you be right.

Just a reminder:

Va Tech will be the 6th game in a row. The prior games will be Lville at home, Stanford at home, AT SMU, Syracuse at home, NC State at home
Not exactly a group of cupcakes, despite what most of this board thinks.

they return one key player and that’s drones. If we struggle with that team it’s going to be a bad season

Lol at Collins dude suck. Syracuse added ND qb so he will probably start. Not worried about Bailey either. Smu lost a ton on both sides and I expect louisville defense to be terrible

Collins won't be the starter for Syracuse.
