Patchan is a big key

I'm not worried about any position on this team right now.. When we curbed stomp LSU like we did Notre Dame you guys will say that I'm right...

Don't forget Bethel. Bethel will play a key role as a swing DT/SSDE. Kid is actually perfectly built for that role - 6'4 280. He will get starter minutes by rotating it at DT and DE when needed.

3T: Willis, Bethel, Martin, Silvera
1T: Ford, Odenigbo, Miller

SSDE: D Jackson, Garvin, Bethel
WDE: J Jackson, Patchan, Rousseau

0% chance Nesta is behind Martin. He will push for time the second his foot touches the practice field. Actually I think he will be our #2 3T by seasons end. He isn’t your average true freshman.

Only one I’m concerned about is the oline but they have time to gel and we are adding more bodies in the mix soon.

Man seeing our DE depth you listed after this year got me worried we gotta get going on our DE recruiting this year and i mean instant starters

DE is brutal next season. And is the basis for me starting this whole thread. Imagine if Patchan gets hurt again this year and just decides to take his degree and hang up his cleats next year? We absolutely must have this kid this year and more importantly next year. He's such a key and it's imperative he stays healthy and is productive.

Thanks kool smh simpson gotta gt his moneys worth on the trail

Patchan has had real trouble adding weight. As a result, he’s too light to fill Chad’s role of setting the edge to stop the run.

So, I see him as a rotational player inserted to use his speed and quickness to pressure the QB. 10-15 plays per game.
I never heard that about Patchan and weight. What does he weigh?

This becomes true if Joe Jackson suffers a season-ending injury or is ruled academically ineligible or if a meteor hits the earth and kills only Joe Jackson.

Patchan, Rousseau and D Jackson give us good depth behind J Jackson and Garvin. I can see DJack moving to DT on passing downs, pairing with Bethel or Willis.

Need to add 3 DEs to our Class of ‘19.

I know we're all anointing Rousseau to be a great one but I'd be much more comfortable if Patchan would give us quality backup mins before depending on a true freshman. But yeah, if Rousseau is a splash and Patch stays healthy, woo hee, we're going to wreak some havoc from the DE spot.

The DT spot, tho....oof

Or if Joe Jackson goes to the NFL after this year and is not on the roster in 2019 leaving Miami with 3 scholarship defensive ends, including Scott Patchan, which is the basis of this whole thread. Thanks.

Like I've said before, all the UM championship defenses have had a token white guy as a big contributor. Patchan needs to be that guy.

I don’t care if Rousseau is a bit light. He has the length of a prehistoric giant spider monkey. He’s a play maker and I’m not concerned one bit about his size.

I’m also not concerned with Patchan. He will play and play well.

Is DT where we'd all like it? Of course not. But....and this is a big but because it never seems to happen....BUT if the kids there now can stay healthy and play up to their potential, there's nothing wrong with the DT group. Willis is a grown *** man and it's his bag season, he should be a killer this year. Bethel is at worst a solid player. D-Jax will slide inside on passing downs, taking some reps. Ford sure as **** looks the part and got rave reviews from Kool before he left. And Silvera, albeit a true freshman, should at least be able to provide some productivity, even if it's just for a handful of plays a game.

I lost my orange and green glasses a long time ago so I'm not going to try to spin it like DT will be some massive strength of the team. But I see no reason it should be this gigantic weakness either.

He can help us but keep in mind that he requested the move to TE in 2017. So what you're saying is true in that the numbers have him primed for a bigger role, but we've watched several kids arrive and surpass him on the depth chart and it should continue with Rousseau and Cam Williams.

Miami plays UF Week 1 in 2019. It's highly likely Joe Jackson will not be on the roster (and certain that Demetrius Jackson will not). If, on that day, Scott Patchan has been surpassed on the depth chart by a true freshman Cam Williams, we're in a world of ****.

Wouldn’t worry about this scenario. It should be Patchan and Rousseau rotating at WDE and Garvin and Bethel rotating at SDE unless we get a physically stout true Fr like Quashon Fuller or Ingraham or a nice JUCO/transfer at SDE.

Patch is the 4th or 5th DE, lol we can live without him having a great season. He needs to cause some havoc on 3rd down with his 10-15 snaps he’ll get. Barring injuries from the top 3..

I agree. And essentially why I created this thread. Look at your post....I agree with it 100%, but my whole point is Patchan has made 0.0 plays since he's been here. Not a single one. I'd like to say it's because he was injured and also had older kids ahead of him, which is probably true. But the fact is he hasn't done a thing yet. And here we are, 15 months away from the gator in 2019, and we're saying it'll be Patchan and Rousseau rotating at WDE next year.

If Patchan doesn't pan out to be anything? Or if he sustains another injury, as a 5th year player and degree in hand, does he even come back next season? Miami sure as **** needs him to, we're talking about him having to be a HEAVY rotational player next year. This is why I'm saying my eyes will be glued to this kid this fall. He needs to take the next step...****, I'll settle for the first step....into developing into a kid that can be trusted. A really solid Scott Patchan in 2019 vs him not being on the roster in 2019 will be gigantic for the depth of the defense.

Assuming they line up the same way, Patch backs up DJax. Backups at DE are very important considering how much we rotate guys. So yeah, he's key.
