Pat Ivey frontrunner for S&C

If we don't get Ivey that would be a major blow.

Outside of Kool, I don't think any of the other staff hires are slam dunks. Ivey would be a slam dunk.

You dont need slam dunk hires at an elite level school like UM. Just put the ball in the **** basket. We have the talent to do the rest. Esp if we can keep our elite level kids down here.

Aranda wasnt a slam dunk hire for LSU. They could have done better. Aranda came with question marks. But Miles knew that with the talent he had on the roster he didnt need **** Lebeau.. he just needed someone who wasnt going to F up the defense.

I've been reading all these nit picky coaching posts and thinking the same thing. With a professional and reasonably competent staff we should be fine. The two previous staffs have been so incompetent we are jaded as to what we need to win.

S&C needs to be a slam dunk.

If your advantage is your athleticism, you have to double down and optimize it with grade A strength and conditioning. We can't be on the same level as other squads. Not if we want championships.

This. Although Rumph is pretty close.

I like Rumph, Searles and Brown but they're not absolute sure things. Diaz and his safety coach have question marks.

We need Ivey.

Exactly. The good doctor would be our 2nd best hire and an absolute slam dunk.

While I agree with the fact that we cant have a dud as our S&C coach..what is the difference between your statement and the people who say that Miami will NEVER be elite again as long as our weight room and facilities are not on par with the big time programs out there? We won titles with facilities that rival Miami Central. While I want this Ivey guy..just get me someone who knows what the F they are doing and we are good IMO.

One is results based and the other is aesthetics. A nice weight room doesn't win NC's. but results in a weight room do.

Perfectly stated.

If Ivey is still in play, one hang-up could be his wife. I think she's a professor at Mizzou.

Maybe they're working on finding her something at Miami? Wishful thinking, I know.

Agree. Hey you stumped me..No rebuttal for that one.

I guess my point is I hope this board doesnt shut down for the 3rd time in 3 days if we dont get Ivey. (Like it did when Diaz, Searles, and Banda were hired) Im not in this for the "big name"..Just get me a guy who knows his **** and we are good. I didnt know much about Tommy Moffit before he came here...I **** sure know him now. Thats all im saying.

there is no reason ivey shouldn't be the guy at this point. he is out of a job isn't he? when do they lock this up?

He has a lot more baggage than people think. I'm sure Richt is talking with Pinkel, Kuligowski, and others about what went down at Missouri.

You guys can defend it all you want, but if the S&C coach played a vital role in rallying players and instigating **** on campus (via the local radio as it's been reported) then it has to be taken into consideration before just hiring to UM.

Your strength coach sees the guys more than the actual coaches do throughout the year. His influence on the players is so big, and thus the hire is that much more important.

With that said, I do hope he can convince Richt that there won't be any trouble, etc. I'm dying to get a real strength coach here. I believe it's been holding us back for the last 10 years.

I'm not sure where the "Ivey is the front runner" rumor initiated but when Richt let Swasey go he said "sometimes when there's transition there's people that you have a comfort level with, that you know what you're getting". That sounds to me like he wants to bring on Mark Hocke from Georgia. Maybe he is waiting on an answer from Hocke.

Was thinking the same thing when I heard that. But he did only have Hocke for 1 year. Is he that comfortable with him?
The quote could also mean that Kuligowski knows Pat Ivey, so in turn there's a comfort level there with Richt/Kuligowski/Ivey.

Smart also hasn’t announced if he’s keeping Hock at UGA, although the 2 worked together at Bama for many years, so you’d think he might.

Just speculating, but one name to keep in mind might be John Thomas, who has been the assistant SC coach at Georgia for 4 years. Even though he works under the 36-yr-old Hock, he is a long-time SC vet, having been Penn State’s SC coach for 20 years, and was the 1997 SC coach of the year (and once was the SC coach for the US military academy).

He is known for the HIT (high intensity training) method of strength training, which in the SC world is about the exact polar opposite of the Moffitt/Hatch/etc style (but is also what Miami used back under Daryl Hewlett). (In a nutshell, the HIT method likes to isolate muscles and then work them to exhaustion with high reps—more pure muscle building, where Hatch et al prefer Olympic-style lifts that work on total body explosion—more focus on athletic power, and less on pure muscle building)

Anyway, no idea whatsoever about him, but maybe Richt likes him and maybe he’s itching to be the boss again.
