It will be interesting to see what happens when a coach of Muslim faith decides to do the same thing down the road

Is this really allowed under church and state separation as long as the University of Miami accepts federal money?

Considering its a private school, pretty sure they can do whatever they want. And it was a gift like pointed out, as long as he doesnt force it down there throats it would be fine at a public school as well.

58-7 Please go read the 1st Amendment. There is no separation of church and state in it. There is the Establishment Clause. The Founding Fathers would have restarted the rebellion immediately had anyone told them they were not allowed to pray anywhere any time.

The irony is that the biggest advocates for the separation of church and state used to be Protestants due to anti Catholic sentiment. Protestants (in an unusual alliance with Jews) were strongly against the government providing any federal aid to private religious schools because private schools were predominantly Catholic prior to the 1970s. Oh protestants, is there anything they don't hate? Anyways I'm not a man of any faith but I don't care if Pastor Richt hands out copies of the Necronomicon and sacrifices chickens so long as he wins us another championship.

The tendency to favor or disfavor a law or policy is often swayed based on personal impact.

No wonder AQM got the boot.

Haha. I don't know (or care) what AQM's religion is but sometimes names alone are misleading. Antwaan Randle El for example was a devout Christian. Paul Finebaum too has a ****** surname but is routinely seen mingling with KKK members.

Call me crazy but I'm going to guess a guy named Al-Quadin Muhammad is not a holy trinity type of guy.

Ironically, yesterday i did meet a Muslim guy named Christian. It was Americanized from some other arabic-ish "C" name I dare not try to pronounce or spell.

If it's optional then I wouldn't see a big deal with it. But we know how optional Islam is in certain parts of the world...

So is your view that because Muslims in Pakistan or Iran want theocratic governments for their country, American Muslims must also want to overthrow U.S.democracy? I've known quite a few Muslims who came to this country because they wanted nothing to do with Islam in governments. Lots of Muslims actually think that the very concept of " political Islam" is sacrilegious as it turns what should be a matter of personal faith into a tool of oppression. I know many Christians who feel the same way about American politicians trying to turn biblical law into actual legislation. Changing the subject: since Richt is handing out Bibles and leading the team to glory in the name of Jesus, could this season be technically dubbed a "Canes Crusade"? I'm actually fine with that.

At the time of the Revolution and later the Constitution most of the Protestants in America where worried about the Church of England and that was the target of the Establishment Clause. There were too few Catholics outside of Maryland to worry them. The Establishment Clause deny the government the power to create an official state religion like the Church of England. Again, there is no "separation of church and state" in the constitution of the US.

That is not to say that Protestants did not hate Catholics. In fact, many say that it was the Quebec Act of 1774 granting religious freedom to French Catholics that lead to the Revolution more than anything else. It is true that separation of church and state originated as a Protestant doctrine but it is not in the Constitution. Most of the cases concerning it were indeed brought by Jews but the true diving force has been atheists. This is so much true that you argue that a state religion has indeed been established by the Federal Courts --- Atheism.

"Sharia law (Arabic: شريعة) is the body of Islamic law. The term means "way" or "path"; it is the legal framework within which the public and some private aspects of life are regulated for those living in a legal system based on Islam."

This is Islam. See London where area of the city are already governed by Shaira. It is a falsehood to think that since some "Moslems" don't agree means what it then most don't. Everywhere their numbers grow to significant levels the pressure to have their own laws grows. We get fooled repeatedly about this because we have lost our faiths and assume they have too. I use to represent members of the Saudi Royal family and the former Royal family of Iran, trust me, Moslems have not lost their faith. They still believe and for the most part we have no way to understand what that means. Religion is the greatest force in history and we are now devoid of it. We are almost defenseless because of that.

It's a gift. Can't imagine anyone can be too upset about it. He is PC about it and always tells players they have no obligation to read

Let's remember that Father Leo was always on the sidelines during our glory days. When I was young, in the Dolphin's heyday, I frequently attended daily Mass and Shula was always there. Trader Jack was a daily Mass Catholic during Marlins last World Series. I associate God and prayers to Him with winning titles. I have no problem with mark doing this, but maybe he should limit them to Old Testament readings during the season -- non o the turn the other cheek stuff there.

Jimmy Johnson even had Father Leo on the sidelines for the Super Bowl when he was at Dallas I guess he wasn't taking chances.

Do you blame him. I don't think JJ was Catholic but he sure liked winning.

Noticed I said certain and the word all is never mentioned. I know there are peace loving Muslims, millions of them. Just a shame they're so quiet. And I agree with our founders, I don't want a theocracy either. Free will is divine after all.....
