I have to think that this game turned into a scrimmage. How else can you explain 26 passes and 52 run plays. The predictability to run up the middle was astonishing to watch becoming laughable in the second half.
The upside with all the running was that Harris, Knighton and Chaney all had some great runs. Solid group. The OL did an admirable job. Much better than La Tech, FIU and Duke last year. Still work to improve but do like the OL upside. The OL also did a great job staying disciplined. I think they had one or two penalties. That's amazing running 78 offensive plays.
The downside to the O is the WR's. Not sure how much Pope played out of the 78 offensive plays but my hope is that he doesn't see more than 20% of offensive plays/game going forward. I just don't see anything great that he does. Same goes for Harley, no more than 20%. Wiggins I'd give him about 30%. The rest of the WR's ~ Payton, Redding, Smith and Restrepo need to get lots of burn.
The TE's need to be utilized more! Mallory not one ball thrown. Jordan was irrelevant for most of the game. These two guys should be catching at least 8 balls/game.
The DL started out slow but got things going in the 2nd qtr. I'd like to see more pressure from the front DL but they did play the run well. The LB's were below average in my opinion. The back end of the D played ok. Ivey is a major liability and has no business starting. He will cost the team a game if he continues to start.
Kicking game was refreshing to see. Solid performance.
Overall, happy for the win of course. Team needs to get ready for Lville and get better quickly.
