Pass blocking

Van dime has great pocket presence, our tackles, Zion and Jarrid, are good, and Van dime also gets the ball out quickly. Also, King was so small and constantly had to move around to see over the line. Our short throws have gotten a lot better with Tyler.
Long throws too.....

TVD is working towards that Danny type quick release. But, he's the package starting with he believes in his ability, knows the playbook - has that ****iness. So, that helps in making quick decisions and keeps him in the pocket, rather than having happy feet and flushing. Along with that quick release, it makes a world of difference for the OL.
TVD makes every throw, the defense has to defend everything now. That's helping as well.

Maybe it’s van dimes, maybe it’s something else…

We still can’t run block for ****, but the the
Pass blocking recently has been good to very good.

Just an observation
From my experience in the pit back in the early 70’s.
How I played against BIGGENS compared to me if he wanted slam hard inside towards the center fine I took him there fast were he wanted to go and visa versa and our RB I’d feel him glancing off my hips.
Now as the game wore on our RB would run the 44 POWER QUICK TRAP and take a slight extra 1/4 step so I could clear and he would brush right by and at times give me a hard GET OUT OF THE WAY bump.

Any way we practiced field presence in conversation in huddle and off the field till it was no thought just execute.

Just a little insight of what’s spoken in the huddle/ bench and locker room .

Outside of the Bama and Michigan State games, our pass blocking has been good to very good all year. Jarrid Williams should have been starting since Game 1 (he is playing lights out) but these corches are going to corch. DJ Scaife is also playing very well.

As may posters have already stated, we should be a pass heavy team.

Lashlee said FSU dline is best we have seen since Ala/Mich st.. Lets see if these guys hold up against real competition..

They been playing better since we had to shuffle the oline due to injuries and stupid offseason moves..
The De will be a problem , hopefully Lashlee finally realizes he shouldn’t keep Mallory in on a de. Thirty whiffs should finally get it through his thick skull. I mean he hasn’t figured out to stop running middle dives on short yardage.

App State was not good.

You should post more war stories.

Has the change at C made a tangible difference?? OL is not really my gig and I know the **** run calls don't help but looking for opinions.

Williams should have been starting all year and maybe it's not a coincidence that the OL started looking better when Gaynor went down. I'm guessing the fact that defenses have to respect the deep ball with TVD might be a factor as well. Run blocking is still an issue though. How many times did we fail to convert on 3rd/4th and short last Saturday?

I think TVD's ability to diagnose coverages and his pocket presence has helped out a lot as well. He has run into a few sacks, but King seemed much more fidgety in the pocket this year, and that doesn't do the line any favors. TVD can identify coverages/pressures, and get the ball out when he needs to or roll away from pressure/step up in the pocket. He does seem to have some really good presence back there, which cannot be taught.

Also, remember that Lashlee's most successful year as a coordinator was with Shane Buchele at SMU. Buchele is much more TVD than he is King. I have a sneaking suspicion that Lashlee is more comfortable with a more pocket passer like TVD than he is tailoring his offense around a kid with the skillset of King. Not saying TVD is better, or anything like that. I just think he might suit what Lashlee is most comfortable doing more than a kid like King.

3 more games against teams with average to poor defenses. Let's keep dropping 35+ a game and see what happens.

In his presser he made it sound like calling runs in those situation wasnt the problem and planned on running up middle until they got it right! lol..

Agreed; the pass blocking has been much better. Thought it was going to be worst, & was wrong. Been happy about that, but yeah the run blocking is still iffy.
