Parity Accomplished

With NIL and the CFP, for good or bad there is parity in college football. Three of the final four teams have never won a championship and we haven’t won since 2001. Will there be another dynasty team moving forward?
I believe "dynasty" under the current landscape might have to be re-defined as, "consistent quarterfinal/semifinal team".

Probably headed to NFL labor-esque model next 3-5 years. Then championship dynasty (but you can call me Ms. Jackson) back on the table for select few in narrow windows.

I agree.

No more Saban-esque dynasties.

Just good programs that will consistently get into the CFP.

Strong point.

Sucked to see Texas Tech pull a Vinny Testaverde with 35 turnovers, should have given Oregon more of a game...that billionaire they have isn't letting tgis **** go.

How great was it to see Bama get their teeth kicked in?

How great was it to watch Kirby desperately work the rules for one more second and come up short finally?

The challenge for Tech now is can they hit in the portal like they did this season, not just talent but it seems they hit on character as well. They can out pay people but if they miss on a couple evals they quickly can turn into FSU and have an expensive but disastrous season.

Absolutely wild what can happen when only certain programs can cheat.
👆This deserves an entirely singular thread...

Why did some programs cheat previously (now openly admitted and joked about), while others did not, or at least were unwilling to ramp up the bag game to elite levels?

Now that NIL has made it all "legal", more programs are willing to participate in the bag game on a level playing field?

True, but weird dynamic how lines and flexibility of "morals" are.

Indiana goes from the worst team in CFB for a century to a contender and the best regular season team over the past two seasons. Joke has been made, but its like they were the only team not cheating for a hundred years and now they can pay players and coaches and do!

Miami had eyes on them for multiple decades. Even the rumor of a bad faith actor around our program had us slapping our own wrists and passing on money making bowl games and losing talent from our backyard with the allue of cars and money that wouldn't even be paid out on our roster in 2025 (most of the players on the team now make more than what the players that were sniped from us were making).

Just two case studies of the (great term used by a guy a few posts up) feudalism of college football prior to the recent legislation of the sport.

I’d venture to say that most programs knew only the select few would get away with it

That was straight-up the middle ages of CFB. Feudalism and high concentration of power. It was not a fun time to be a fan.
Dark ages.

If Tech doesn't make the playoff next year, it will be a FSU level collapse. Their OOC schedule is Abilene Christian, Oregon State and Sam Houston. Their toughest conference games are all home.

I think consistent playoff team is more likely. Even us, next year is going to be a major re-tool in the front 7 and OL/QB. Bain/Mesidor won’t be replicated, just need to add as much talent as possible so the play only dips 5-10% and not 25%. I still like our potential at end next year with Lowe but we need 2 transfers there. And that’s not a knock, we have the best DE’s in college football, so dipping 5-10% next year is still a **** good top 10-15 unit.

The privileged will do whatever it takes to maintain their privilege. I equate it to "red-lining". This is why Miami was/is so hated by the blue bloods (err, privileged). They fought desperately to keep us out of their gated communities. Selectively enforcing rules and laws, while turning a blind eye to the blatant sins of their members.

Now NIL and the portal not only allowed us to come in, but everyone else too. The control mechanisms that were in place for decades have now been obliterated.

In response, the privileged (now in the form of the SEC and B1G) will use their influence to secure their preferential treatment (auto-bids; the MOU for ND; etc. BTW, the ND AD screwed up by disclosing the backroom agreement prematurely. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out). If this doesn't work, they'll do the equivalent of the "Great Migration" and form their own conference, (country) club, or whatever to maintain their exclusivity.

This isn't new; this isn't a surprise; this isn't just America; this is the human experience played out in the theater of CFB.

Why did some programs cheat and others did not? Probably because some programs were protected and others were not.

NIL saved college football.

As much as I miss seeing Alabama and Georgia with more 5 star recruits than every other team combined playing for the championship every single year, this is much more exciting to everyone who doesn’t have kids with their cousins.

Just having this conversation with friends. It’s not that no one else was cheating. It’s that certain teams were protected. OSU had numerous instances getting caught but never the death penalty. Ole miss has that class with Tunsil and next thing you know they are getting hammered by the ncaa.

We have boat ride and it’s death penalty for five years of bs investigations.

Meanwhile bama lsu players have brand new cars, pics with wads of cash and parents with new jobs but nothing happens.

NIL is the great equalizer along with the portal.

Is it any coincidence Saban left when he did??
