Paradise Camp 2017 (July 21-22)

extremely underwhelmed by the 2018 list of attendees

The downvotes will come, but taking the ole Cane shades off leaves me feeling similarly. Part of that is because a lot of our class is already locked up, and that's fine, but still think we need a few bigger names. Having our commits there is nice, but it's a recruiting event above all else which is why I find it underwhelming regarding big uncommitted targets.

The underclassmen list, on the other hand, is looking very nice. Jashawn Sheffield and Dontae Lucas are two of my favorite prospects for 2019.

this. As such a highly touted "recruiting event", would like to see some more big fish

We have big fish committed. That wasn't the case the last time around. Especially not to the level of highly rated commits we have now

I think yall perception is off.
would it be better if guys like lingard, pope, nesta, jobe weren't committed?

No one has signed anything yet. This event is also very important to the current class who are still recruits and who will take visits. Let's not take our commits for granted. Name me a school who wouldn't want the 2018-19 visitors, including our commits, on campus for a weekend? This is how it should be done. Continue to impress and bless our current recruits who will also recruit for this years and for classes to come.
Yes it would be nice to get every 5* star prospect on campus but it is still early and we are in a very enviable spot. Go back 2 years ago at this same time and remember how we felt and where the program was.

I understand and love the class we have as of now. Love that they will be at Paradise, but still think for this event, we could have some bigger recruits to sway

Yep, that's all I'm saying as well. As big as the alumni names are this year, that would work wonders with some of the bigger names we're after. With that said, I'm sure the staff has tried, or maybe there are a few names being kept under wraps for now. Still, would like to see some bigger fish to match the firepower we're bringing with all the former players.

Seems like there are rumblings that certain groups are already pretty full and commits might be a bit nervous about how full they are. So I guess its a balance of keeping options open on certain high ranked players but not scare away the guys you already have. Don't want to get caught drooling over the 10 at the table next to you that you don't have a shot with while you are on your date with the 8 you are lucky to have there.

Need some current stars there. Olsen, Miller, Hurns would be nice.

Didnt someone last year say that current NFL players are not allowed to be coaches due to compliance rules? I am almost certain someone asked the same question last year and that was the answer. Duke was at Paradise camp last year as an on-looker. If you dont think there will be ProCanes there just hanging out and chilling on campus during this weekend then you got it all wrong. I am sure there will be alot of them there..just can't coach.

I'm sure Richt is smarter than most about rules. That was luke the **** who tried and failed

Pete just dropped Calais Campbells name into the list of PC coaches. So there's that.

Would be interested to see if he is doing any real instructional coaching or just being a "glorified" coach. I dont know the rules so hey..but if that is the case then I agree with the original poster on this that we could sprinkle in some current NFL canes to get a good mix of past and present.

Mikel Jones - LB (Mater Academy Charter)

Hialeah Mater Academy Charter Top100 linebacker Mikel Jones will be at Miami this weekend for Mark Richt's Paradise Camp.

The 2019 prospect informed InsideTheU that he plans to be on campus after talking things over with the Hurricanes.

Jones, who is ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 8 outside linebacker for the next recruiting cycle, doesn't hold an offer from UM, but a song performance Saturday night under the lights could result in a bid from the local programs.

Exactly... and we have a few 10s already committed. When you have 19 commits for 2018, it's hard to have many uncommitted 2018 present.

I'm not entirely sure I get this mindset. Which recruits do you guys think would be scared off? Also, do we really want guys who are THAT scared of competition? I agree in the sense we shouldn't try to bring in 5 WRs, but other than that, anyone who would be scared off by bigger names at a premier recruiting event is a pansy.

Maybe I'm harsh, but am I wrong? At least I hope we don't have guys afraid of competition. Very rarely do kids like that pan out if we're being honest.

I like the fact that we have most of the class locked in and can focus on the building the next class, not sure why people would complain about the list of attendees from 2018 when we already got most of the guys we targeted. We are done at QB, RB, TE, only have one spot for WR (Thornton) and maybe 2 at OL (Barnes). On defense we just need 1-2 LB (Joyner, Louis), 2-3 DL (Oyadele, Briggs) and maybe 1-2 more DB (Bethel, Campbell). How many prospects do you want there? Especially when we are not planning to offer them. Let the commits come and build relationships with each other, current players, former players, and coaches. Oh yeah, they can also help recruit the guys who are not yet committed.
