Papa Williams speaks out

I was mocking a poster they told me during the game Wiggins would go into his shell if Diaz yelled at him
The whole yelling thing is overrated. John Wooden is greater than Bobby Knight. Dean Smith > Gregg Marshall.

Kids/employees/organizations respond to setting lofty goals and holding everyone to account. Hire slow, fire fast.

But, the idea that you have to constantly praise without a hint of criticism is just wrong — and it always has been.

As a Senior NCO in the military, they “try” to teach these new generation of leaders to praise in public and reprimand in private for these new generation of kids. I don’t agree with this mindset all the time. I’m more of the “where you f**k up at, is where you will get corrected at”. Now am I expecting manny to go belligerent on the sideline all the time? No! But if I’m the coach, I **** sure will not give you a butt smack and hand shake after you have been dropping passes all game and all season and it would have probably been some times . You have to know the player though, each one is different mentally and an a** chewing on national tv could hurt some of their fragile mental makeup.
This is absolutely true. Maintenance culture is a bit different, as I'm sure most are, and I've had to go from calling these new kids retarded to asking them if they're retarded. In all seriousness, you gotta light these kids up at times when they don't perform or bench them flat out. If one of my guys ***** up and we lose a sortie over it his *** is briefing the flight and getting in his technical orders on my truck after being lit up. I bench his *** until I feel he's ready to perform. They either come back better or they're relegated to doing ***** work. Ain't nobody got time for half assed effort.

I was smoked many times in front of hundreds of people, even right after a parade.

In this era -- the ONLY coaches who can yell at the CFP players and not lose them to the portal are: Saban and Dabo

Those guys are Kings of college ball...Everyone other coach is a pawn or rook on the chessboard at best.

It says more about the modern day college players than it does about the coaches.

Yelling doesn’t always work but I think it’s very effective for in game situations in football. But I mean something had to be done differently. What’s going on now isn’t cutting it and the kids seem like they don’t care.

The coaches (aka grown men) get paid 6 and 7 figure salaries for certain responsibilities..........and to the dismay of some on this board yes............developing young 18-21 year olds as football players and men is one of them.
